  • 1.  DELL iDRAC7 SNMP Traps do not visible in Spectrum 10.3

    Posted Feb 15, 2019 05:27 AM

    Hi All,

I need to monitor hardware components of DELL servers through Spectrum. I have discovered those in Spectrum via SNMP and enabled SNMP traps on iDRAC. When i tried to test the SNMP Test Trap it do not  visible in Spectrum One Click dashboard. MIB file is already added to Spectrum and i have created test trap event to a minor alarm.

Is it possible to get the test trap this way? Please advice me.

    thanks

    Kasun

    Hi Kasun,

I would suggest enabling the CA Spectrum Alert Manager in debug mode and confirm that SpectroSERVER is receiving the traps from DELL servers and processing them. It will also tells where the events are being generated on.

In case the Alert Manager in debug mode does not display incoming traps from DELL, use a sniffer such as WireShark to narrow down.

How to enable Alert Manager debugging in Spectrum - CA Knowledge

    Thanks,

    Silvio

    Hi Silvio,

I performed a tcpdump from spectrum side when dell server sending test trap. Please find the captured packets below for your information.

Does any of these packets related to test trap or is there anything that i would miss from spectrum side? Please help me to get this resolved.

    Thanks

    Kasun

    Hi Kasun,

Here an example of tcpdump filter by IP:

    tcpdump -i eth0 -n "host 10.245.1.24" -s 0 -w dell_idrac.pcap

-s 0 flag tell tcpdump to capture packet at original size (65535 bytes). And, this will create much larger output file.

"host 10.245.1.24" replace by the dell_idrac IP address.

    Thanks,

    Silvio

    Hi Kasun,

I am assuming that 10.245.1.2 is the IP Address of one of Dell iDrac.

In the dell_idrac.pcap file there are just a few packets captured within 15 seconds. There is no trap coming from 10.245.1.2 (Dell iDrac) in the sniffer trace file. I just see the SpectroSERVER performing a SNMP get-request and the device responding to its requests.

    Thanks,

    Silvio
