We are in the process of deprecating our Editable Detail Page (EDP) in order to replace it with a new Full Detail Page (FDP) that will be more performant and that has the same great features as the Quick Detail Panel (QDP) like at mentions, work item templates, and hiding & reordering fields.

As a result, we are recommending that user move over any rich text templates (single field, available only in EDP) that you're interested in keeping to work item templates (multiple fields, available in QDP/FDP). These must be migrated manually if you are interested in using them with QDP/FDP.

For more information about work item templates, please check out the help page.

    Migrating After Switching To FDP

Once you are using FDP instead of EDP, you will no longer be able to access rich text templates from EDP. However, you can use a custom HTML app to retrieve the rich text template contents to add to work item templates.

This video will walk you through the process listed below:

    1. Create a custom page or go to one of your existing custom pages.
    2. Go to the gear icon a the top right of the custom page and select "Add Apps".

    3. Add the rich text template viewer HTML app to your custom page. You can search for the app to find it more quickly.

    4. The app will show the content from your existing rich text templates in the "Value" column. To create a work item template with this content:

      1. Identify the template you wish to move over and copy the content in the "Value" column for that template.
      2. Then click the "+ Add New" button on the app, and select the work item type that you want this content as a template for. This will open up an editor for this work item type.
      3. Paste the content you have copied into the desired text field for that work item and fill out any other required fields to enable you to create that work item, then click create. (More detailed instruction on creating work item templates here.)

        **Note**
        1. Templates can only be created from existing work items (When the QDP/FDP says "New" instead of a formatted ID, this work item is still not created yet). However, if you wish for your template to still only apply to a text field, when you are creating the work item template you can deselect all fields except for your text field so that the template will only modify the text field.
        2. Additionally, once a template is created, the work item it was created from is not needed for the template to exist, so if you created a work item specifically to create your template, you may delete that work item.
      4. Once your work item is created, click the “Templates” button at the top right of the FDP or QDP to create a new template with this content.

        **Note**
Previously, rich text templates would apply only as a prepend to text fields on currently existing work items or apply to blank text fields on new work items. Work item templates allow you, for text fields, to select Prepend, Append, or Replace for how you would like the template content to be applied to work items.

    Migrating With EDP

Before switching to FDP, you can easily move any templates you're interested in using from EDP to QDP.

    1. Click the Templates button at the top right of an EDP rich text field, such as Description.

    2. You can either copy the text from the template modal, or apply the template to a work item and copy it from there.
    3. Create a new work item and open it in QDP. Use the editor default view toggle to change from EDP to QDP if necessary.

    4. Once the contents have been added to the new work item, click the Templates button at the top right of the QDP to open the work item template modal.

    5. Choose which fields to include as part of the template and click "Add." Complete information on creating work item templates can be found here.

Hi grama23 I have a few questions about this change.  1) When FDP is available, will users be able to toggle between EDP, QDP, and FDP?  2) If not, is this something that will be turned on at the Subscription Level or can it be turned on for individuals?  3) Do you have any time frame on when EDP will be deprecated?  Thanks!

Great questions Sheri.L.Moore! 1) Users will not be able to switch back to EDP, 2) once FDP has been toggled on, sub admins will not be able to turn FDP off so that EDP is available again, 3) we don't have a specific date in mind just yet but we're hoping to roll this out to our users pretty quickly so they can get all of the great benefits of FDP.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Can the Rich Text Template Viewer App be configured to view ALL templates in a workspace?  As an Admin, I want to make sure all users who are using Rich Text Templates are aware of the change and have time to create their new Work Item templates in advance of the change.  With a large user base and templates applied at various places in the hierarchy, at least knowing what templates are out there and (if possible) who created them would help us make sure we reach everyone.

Great Suggestion terry.ginzburg - I would love to be able to know where these Rich Text Templates exists so that we can target our e-mail!

I am a newly appointed Admin and am also interested in the answer to this question as well.  Thank you for asking this!

    Hi Marianne,

We are having an issue with the push.  Our existing templates in QDP (the new ones) have now wrapped out the text fields in HTML Code.  We can't update these templates and so the workaround is that we have to tell people to create new templates.  Greg is going to create a support ticket but wanted you to know.

grama23 Will it be possible to get a list of users that are using the old Rich Text Templates so we can make sure they migrate their templates?

Do we have a date yet when the new FDP will be considered GA?  I have a few users in the FDP beta and we are evaluating the impacts of the change (e.g. template changes, training materials, etc.). It would help to know when it's going to be GA so we can prepare our users.

Since the introduction of QDP templates, I've been maintaining equivalent templates for EDP and QDP.  After the migration, will those QDP templates automatically be available in both QDP and the new FDP views?

    Thanks!

Several people asked about seeing all of the rich text templates.  The suggested app limits the templates returned based on the user, project and workspace.  But I found that deleting the Rally.data.wsapi.Filter eliminates those filters and the app appears to show all of the templates. (The attched text file shows the code to delete.  I couldn't get it to display properly in this reply.)

Hi Cathrin, I couldn't find the source code for the app on Github to make the changes you suggested. Can you share the location or the code?  Thanks! Vince
