  • 1.  Cannot import Portfolio Items via  Excel or Web

    Posted Mar 22, 2019 07:04 AM

we are trying to import portfolio items using Excel and web. We are getting  the following error

Import of 'portfolio item Feature' in row 2 was not successful for the following reasons:

Validation error: Feature.State should not be null

State column has values but still the tool is not recognizing the values. When we validate the fields before import we get "Impor data is valid".

    Any help will appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hi Anitha,

It can be difficult to know exactly what is happening here without the sample data, however this can happen if the State values in the Excel sheet do not conform with the valid States for that portfolio item type.

For example, by default the states for Feature are Discovering, Developing, Measuring, Done.  So if the State in the Excel sheet doesn't match these or any custom states you have added, then that error can be thrown.

Anitha,  If you verify that it you have the correct states as noted above, open your CSV file in a plain text editor and seet if the data has Comma's - not just that the file extension is ".csv".  Excel/Office will many times default to Text Format instead of CSV format when saving, even if your file extension is .csv.  If that is the case, you can Save As... and make sure that the Format is set to CSV.  Be sure to open the file in a plain text editor again to make sure that your data has comma's between the values.

    Hi Anitha,

On top of all that was said earlier, please note that our previous Excel add-in version 2.4.4 has a known issue with the State field on Features. See: Agile Central - Excel: Add-in doesn't import the S - CA Knowledge

This is resolved, however, in our latest Excel 2016 add-in

If you are on Excel 2.4.4 then you will need to upgrade to the latest version.
