In order to provide the same great functionality in our quick detail panel (QDP) as well as provide a more performant editor, we have released a new full detail panel (FDP) experience!

    Template Migration

Single field rich text templates that were available in EDP will not be migrated automatically to the multi-field work item templates in QDP/FDP. There is an app available in the app catalog to assist with this transition, you can read more here: https://communities.ca.com/message/242155126-product-announcement-migrate-rich-text-edp-templates-to-work-item-qdp-templates

    New Features

    Walkthrough Video

Switching Between Full Screen and Split Screen

FDP will be replacing the old full screen editor that was available on user stories, defects, tasks, portfolio items, risks, investments, defect suites, test cases, test sets, test folders, test case runs, iterations, releases and milestones. To switch between the full screen and split screen view, you can use the default view toggle at the top of the editor.

    Hide/Show Fields

You can choose which fields to hide or show in QDP and FDP using the Field Selector at the top.

    Drag And Drop Field Reordering

Hovering over the left of field name will reveal a handle that you can use to drag and drop fields to change their display order.

When moving a field, look for the horizontal gray bar to ensure you're dropping it in the location you want to move it to.

    At Mentions

In any rich text field including Discussion and Description, there is an @ button which will allow you to select a user to mention, and that user will receive an email notifying them.

    Connections Including Pull Requests

While you could only view changesets in EDP, QDP and FDP now show both changesets and pull requests in the Connections collection. Click on the Connections (globe) icon.

    Work Item Templates

Work item templates allow you to create templates for multiple fields at the same time, and you can include child tasks on a story or child stories on a parent story/feature. Use the Templates button at the top of QDP/FDP to access the template modal.

    Copy Formatted ID

To use the Copy Formatted ID, hover just to the right of the formatted ID in QDP so the copy boxes appear, then click on the icon to see the copy options.

    Risks Collection

You can see which risks are associated with a user story or portfolio item with the risk collection available on QDP and FDP.

grama23  Is there a reason that you have now adopted a new name for this page?  Full Page Editor vs Full Detail Page?  I'm still trying to get users to understand QDP and FDP.  FPE is just adding to the confusion, IMHO

We get questions all the time about moving field across the columns, so it might be helpful to add some information about that in the FAQs.

Lastly, we've been getting a lot of requests to be able to size the two columns, would love to see this in an upcoming release.

Lastly, thanks so much for providing all this information in one place, it's very helpful and will be directing users to this page!

That is just a great point right there! Updated the post for "FDP"!

    I'm gonna add that! Thanks!

Seeing a problem where a defect does not find a user story searched for as a parent in the new FDP.  Some people here still do not have access to the new panel, so we tried the same action the old version, the same defect CAN find the desired user story. Also, the defect tab on a user story within the FDP seems to be missing the button to choose an existing defect to associate with it. This is an "add new" button, but no "choose" button.

In the old full-page editor it was possible to copy items on the children tab via the gearbox, e.g., user stories on a feature.

This gearbox is no longer present on the children tab and I can't find a button for copy.

Is this feature no longer possible? Will it be again?

  • 10.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 09:38 AM

I had to set up a custom page from the "Custom List With Deep Export" app in order to get some of the functionality back, but unfortunately, that app does not include copy on multi-select.  You can use the gear there to copy one task at a time.

I really do not know what to make of yesterday's update. I appreciate the efforts in rearrangement of the UI, but do not understand why certain core functionality was left out. Was this intentional or is it a bug? All I know is that this tool is much more difficult to use now if/until those functions are added back.

  • 11.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 10:30 AM

I, too, am struggling to find functionality that has disappeared.  I frequently used the gearbox to copy stories, tasks, defect.  I really hope they find a way to bring this back.

  • 12.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

the copy and rest of actions  is moved on left side under the 3 dots.

  • 13.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 04:50 PM

I don't see this anywhere on my screen.

If you're talking about the 3 dots next to the US number, that copies the story itself. Not the tasks.

So this is something we've received a LOT of feedback on, and are working to improve it. The change would allow a user to select a single item on the grid and copy it.

Right now, the workaround involves too many clicks, but works:

JohnStreeter: The change that is coming, would it allow to copy one task at a time only? Or will it even allow multiple tasks to be selected and made copies of?

    Nivi

  • 16.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 26, 2019 04:40 PM

I had seen the same behavior (copying a story did not include the tasks), but just tried it again and all of the tasks were copied.  Was very glad to see that, but mystified why it would sometimes work and sometimes not.

  • 17.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

I created a test case, using the numbered List ex:

    1. test
    2. test2

but after saving the numbered list doesn't appear at UserStory Test Run Tab

  • 18.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 09:39 AM

This is no better than the changes pushed this same time last year. We have the same problems now as we did then. Neither the FDP or QDP allow testers to see the Test Case Steps, Preconditions, Custom Fields, Notes, Last Build, Last Verdict in a single view. We use data in these fields consistently. Having to click across the tabs in FDP to view all the fields we need is very inconvenient. The Test Case Steps are not visible in QDP. We've tried changing the fields displayed, but this doesn't seem to do anything on the Test Case tab, and you're not able to add Test Case Steps to the Details tab. Extremely dissatisfied with this change and that the time our team spent working with the Rally team did not change anything.

  • 20.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

Is there any possible way to revert to the old view that we have all come to learn? I prefer it over this new view; the newer view is harder to navigate, and it just doesn't feel easier to use.

  • 21.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 11:57 AM

Except for the fact that @mentions & templates were added to this feature, I really don't see any benefit of this view. In fact it is more difficult to navigate that the EDP.

    1. Design wise EDP was easier on the eye - with grouping of fields.

    2. In the tasks tab, there is a limit of being able to add only 10 columns! For us this is really annoying to use.

    3. Like others have pointed out - there is no way to copy tasks!! This feels like a huge minus.

Instead of living with these negatives, I would have preferred to live with EDP (even though it didn't have @mentions & templates)

  • 22.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 12:00 PM

I agree the 10 column limit in list views is very frustrating.  I just hit that when trying to reorganize my view to put it back to what it was.  I cannot get all the columns I need in this view.  Why was it limited to just 10 columns?

  • 23.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 26, 2019 04:40 PM

    Hi Martin,

It was limited to 10 columns for performance - we're doing what we can to ensure that users are seeing exactly what they want to see, and it loads as quickly as possible!

Regarding niveditha_nivi's comments, one big benefit of FDP is the ability to reorganize and show/hide fields so you only see what you want to see. So this would allow grouping of fields, even custom fields, as desired.

We're working on improving copying tasks. Right now, the workaround is a 4-click process (too many for me, but works ok for now):

  • 24.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 29, 2019 10:32 AM

Reg. Grouping of fields: the fields would still remain on the right hand side and a lot of scrolling would still need to be done.

Looking at clusters of fields was definitely easier, without having to scroll.

If the FDP will allow flexibility of moving fields to the left side below the notes/description fields, then it might be better. But just hiding/seeing fields doesn't help, because we are controlling most of that through field settings anyway.

  • 27.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 12:00 PM

Big problem in that he "choose" button is missing in several locations where associations need to be made between work items. For example you CANNOT chose an existing defect to associate with a user story, nor can you set dependencies between existing stories.  An immediate fix is required. If you cannot fix this ASAP, please roll back your changes and restore the old UI until you fix these core issues. The tool is missing key functionality now.

  • 28.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 12:03 PM

    Hey Mitch,

There is an option to "choose" an existing defect & to map dependencies. It's just not intuitive.

You have to click on "+Add New" button, and then the "Choose" button shows up.

    No disagreeing there.

The "+Add New" button is poorly named. It should say "Add/Choose" or "Associate".  The productivity hit here today is noticeable as people have to trial/error navigate through the tool while doing their work.

I appreciate your input and assistance.

  • 32.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 12:35 PM

    Another interesting discrepancy....
When looking at the iteration status (or pretty much anywhere else), an in-progress task shows as "P"

But now inside a story/defect, that same status bar will show "I"

    Why?

  • 33.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 26, 2019 04:28 PM

Hmm -- yeah I'm not sure why, actually! Looks like the actual value for the State is "In-Progress", but Iteration Status shows 'P' while the child list in FDP shows as 'I'.

I'd expect it to be the same for wherever you're looking at it. I'll bring this up with the product team. Thanks for pointing it out!

  • 34.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 12:51 PM

Our users are having trouble associating features to stories.  The search box returns no results unless the feature is in the same project as the story. It appears that you need to select the feature's project and THEN search.  This is a serious regression in functionality and it's a big productivity hit.

And, when I tried to submit a support case, I got a "We're sorry, this service is temporarily unavailable..."

  • 35.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 12:53 PM

I am having the same issue with associating stories with defects.  Additionally, the project drop-down list does not show the bottom of the list.  In my case, scrolling to the bottom is not far enough to reach the "Yellow team". Even reducing the magnification percentage on the browser does not cause any change.  I have to manually type "Yellow" (or a subset of it) to get the list to filter to just that item.

  • 36.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 25, 2019 02:58 PM

Finally managed to submit a case, and it has been logged as a defect.

  • 37.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted May 06, 2019 03:43 PM

grama23 Our users are having issues with the parent selection box on user stories as it seems to return all user stories and features when no filter is selected.  When they at least choose a type, say Feature, they get 130,299 results.  It would be amazing if there could be one more filter added for 'State'.  We are trying to keep people from selecting any Done or Cancelled features.  Same for the parent selection box for Features, Capabilities, and Epics.

  • 38.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted May 06, 2019 03:55 PM

It looks like they are making changes to this function today - when looking at it right now, when I select Features or User Stories, I get a list of items of that type, but only items in projects where I have edit rights.  And if I use the Project selector, I only see projects where I have edit rights.  This is how it should work!    Now make the same update to the collections pages and we'll really have something!  Good changes...

Hi terry.ginzburg I saw that change and I was so happy they were able to figure it out!  I was actually hoping to be able to filter out parent selections based on the state.  It seems that people, including my own team, are linking to old portfolio items that are already done.

    Posted May 07, 2019 12:23 PM

Hey JohnStreeter I did see that and it's a fantastic improvement!  I was hoping we could add one more filter criteria based on state.  We keep getting users that are picking old portfolio items that have been closed for years.  It would be great to be able to eliminate them from the view completely.  I would love to see advanced filters on this selection window

  • 42.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted May 07, 2019 12:26 PM

Same happens here with my team as well. It would be good to see additional filters (for our case, adding the Release field helps).

  • 43.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 01:06 PM

Our all the releases we have seen over the years, this is one of the WORST.  This has disrupted our business and in typical Rally fashion, there is no way to un-do any of the issues they have created.

    1) To assume that everyone wants side-bar functionality is ridiculous

    2) When creating Iterations, it used to show what days had already been used so one would not accidentally create conflicting Iterations, this has been disabled and is causing issues across our lines of business.

    3) Previously when looking at the children of an artifact, it was possible to add filters and save the view, this is no longer an option, can this please be restored.  By removing this, those individuals who relied on this have lost all the reporting they had in place.

We have come to expect very little from Rally and their infrequent releases and lack of innovation, but this release has actually caused negative impacts to 900+ users...

  • 44.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 01:24 PM

Sizing the columns is huge for us.  Right now the right column is tiny and is just frustrating and if we switch to Anchor, that's better because you have all the fields in one like it used to be but you still can't size it.  We want to have all of the fields accessible in one screen again (at least give us the option for full, split, whatever)

  • 45.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 05:49 PM

In addition to the concerns already mentioned about being limited to 10 columns when viewing children (FAR too few when looking at initiatives or features!) a user brought to my attention that the limit also affects what's exported with the CSV export function.

And... ranking. No longer can you select where to place an item (highest, lowest, or by number).

    Seriously dismayed by this update.

  • 46.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 25, 2019 11:16 AM

I can still use the ranking feature. See below. Are you viewing your list in Rank order?

  • 47.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Hi Eric,

Yes, it's still available from the regular list view (like Portfolio Items).

But it's missing when looking at children (open up an Initiative and look at the Features under it, or open a Feature and look at the stories).

    Thanks.

FYI we're actively looking at increasing the # of columns on children pages

  • 49.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 24, 2019 06:17 PM

Anyone have a work-around for the missing "Shared filter view" on the pages that were affected by this change? URLs that teams were using to ensure everyone had the same filtered view of, say Artifacts within a Milestone, are now invalid, and there doesn't appear to be a way to save or share views.

And we'll add our voice to the intense dislike of 10-column limits. Our 8000+ users have lost who knows HOW many hours of productivity already over the impact this change made.

It appears this change was aimed for small/light users only, at the expense of heavy/enterprise users.

I had commented elsewhere about the lack of constant-width fonts as being extremely inconvenient, but now it appears the problem is much more serious.

I have users who have, before the change, pasted in things like stack traces and now the entire thing is showing up as all on a single line, so it completely unusable.

  • 54.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

    Posted Apr 25, 2019 03:59 PM

Not only is the entire block of text on a single line, it runs off the right edge of the text box and there's no scroll bar.

I opened one example in the WSAPI and it's being formatted as expected, by the say, so the content of the field is correct.

After the 4/23 update, I'm seeing one custom app behaving very strangely.  The bottom rows of the list it creates are cut off and only appear if you zoom way out using the browser zoom.

Is anyone else seeing something similar?  I'll file a support case but wanted to throw out the question in case others have any suggestions.  I'm assuming it has something to do with the recent changes, given that the app has been working fine for more than 2 years, up to this point.

Now, you can't reorder the Rank, ID or Name columns.  I had removed the Name temporarily to make room for another column (that 10 column limit strikes again).  When adding it back, it's on the far right.  And, I can't move it.

Just for grins, I tried removing the Rank and ID columns.  Let me do that, no problem. Adding them back puts them on the far right and there's no way to move them.

I will file a support case.

  • 63.  Re: Product Announcement - New FDP Full Detail Page Editor

So, we really only have 7 columns we can configure, not 10.  I would agree that ID makes sense to always have in a list, but not necessarily Rank or even Name.

Thanks for the feedback @CCallas! We'll be taking a look at the column limitations shortly and should have an update for you in the near future.

CCallas - we released a change that now allows the user to select 15 columns, plus the 3 that we provide. So the total has been upped to 18 columns on the collection pages.

I see that now it has changed so I can't de-select Rank and Name, so there's no chance that they will end up out of order.

Not happy about always having to show those (especially Name, which is a big column), but with 15 configurable columns now it's less painful.

    Thanks.

Why was the UNDO functionality removed when editing text in the Description and Notes sections?  As well as the Increase/Decrease Indent is not working as before.  As asked above, is it possible to revert to the old version? Or at least please revert this functionality.

Hi Gloriela, thanks for reporting the indent issue! I'm not sure whether that's by design or not, but I've engaged our Engineering team to see what we can do about it!

Regarding the UNDO functionality -- there is no longer a need for an UNDO option as auto-save does not occur in this editor. If you don't want to save your changes, just hit the "Discard" button at the bottom.

there is a need for undo (Last Action) as you are typing or pasting etc.

    Hi Debra,

While there isn't a button in the toolbar to do this, the keyboard commands (Ctrl+Z on Windows and Cmd+Z on Mac) will work to undo erroneous text entry

Since the new Editor went in, I can't see the icons on the bottom milestone chart (using Chrome).  Also, when you close QDP, the charts aren't resizing.  Support suggested making my Chrome font to Small rather than Medium which does fix being able to see the icons but it affects the size of all my drop downs, etc which doesn't work since I am doing training sessions every day and will make it hard for people to see.  This wasn't an issue before the editor was installed.

Summary: Can't add test cases (from a test folder) to a test set if the test set has 1000+ test cases

    Steps:

    * Use Test Set "Add Existing Test Cases" dialog from the gear menu.

    * Filter for a particular Test Folder, result is "No items found".

Did experiments with various test sets and the problem seems to relate to how many test cases are in the test set:

    * Tried adding to a different test set (in the same project) that has about 500 or fewer test cases, works fine.

    * Tried adding to a test set with about 1000 test cases, only shows 49 of the 70 test cases in the test folder.

    * Tried adding to a test set with about 1500 test cases, see "no items found".

I submitted a support case. Posting it here in case others have seen similar behavior.

How can I make a copy of all stories within a portfolio item?

Is there a solution to this?
I have multiple requests for making copies of many stories within a Portfolio item and the only way I'm currently able to do it is select a single story, copy it and then move on to the next story.
Is an update coming that would allow me to select multiple stories and make a copy?

After reading this in the FAQ:

Why doesn't my dropdown list show all values?

One of our main objectives with FDP was to improve performance.  You may notice that the initial fetch does not display all values, this helps us achieve our performance goal by displaying fewer results initially.  You will also notice a Search bar at the top of of the list which will allow you to narrow down and locate the correct option(s).  This includes Rally built-in fields as well as Custom fields.

    I have these concerns:

    1. This seems to assume the user already knows the all values contained in the list, so they can search for it. That's not a good assumption.
    2. The drop down as implemented has no indication that it's a partial list
    3. The scroll bar does not scroll to the bottom of the list, just to the last item initially loaded. So there's no way for users to see the whole list.

All of the above has created confusion and impacted our users' productivity.

A more typical and useful approach would be to load more items when the user scrolls to the bottom, and to have some indication at the bottom that there's more on the list.  And, having a way for the user to request "show all", would be helpful.

I noticed today that the attachments section got moved to the left panel. It's definitely better.

But it would be great if more fields can be moved to the left side and scrolling can be reduced.

I would be okay even if that control is given to workspace admins.

I found out the same today when someone came over freaking out that the needed attached documents were gone. She hadn't thought to look in the left pane after getting used to it being in the right pane for a month. I would be nice if there was some sort of announcement of changes when the UI is significantly altered. And I agree niveditha_nivi, being able to move things to the left pane or even between the two panes would be great.  It is an annoyance that the ready & block buttons are on the left but the scheduled state is on the right.  To us,and I don't know if others view it the same, they are inter-related, so it's disjointed to have them in separate panes.

Also, when is the task in-progress status going to get it's "P" status bar designation back, ditching the new "I"?

I agree that it would be great to have a little more flexibility and be able to move fields from side to side.

But regarding attachments, I see they were moved to the left for portfolio items, stories and defects.  Why were they not moved to the left for Test Cases and Test Results?  I see a strong use case for attachments on Test Results and having them on the left would be a big improvement.  It seems the quality management section is always an afterthought, which is a shame.

I couldn't agree more, @Terry; I've said the same myself, many times.

And it's ironic because the Product Owners live in email and documents and meeting spaces, and the developers live in code, both of them having Rally itself as a sideline bureaucratic necessity  -- whilst the QAs live and breathe Rally work items all day long.

When the 4/23 update came out I was very concerned to see the new behavior when converting defects to stories resulted in the defect being deleted.  This would have a big impact on us because it broke traceability and broke the connections among duplicated defects.

When I tried doing a conversion today, a new dialog popped up indicating that the defect will NOT be deleted, and appears to be back to the old behavior.  This is great!

Please confirm which behavior will be the go-forward one.  The documentation still says that the defect will be deleted.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Can we eliminate the auto-population of the owner field when a template is applied to a story or defect?

For Ex: I have created multiple templates during the migration and my name is listed as the owner for those templates. However, I was not original owner. Now, when a user is applying any of those templates., my name is displayed as the owner. Is there an option to modify it?

I had asked this question two weeks ago on ca communities sub admin page but did not get a response.

RallyGuy Just don't include that field in the template - you can remove it from the list

That is happening because you have the Owner value set to you in your

template. You'd have to delete the template and re-create without a value

    in the Owner field.

I see there is no easy way of making copies of a Portfolio Item.

Sure, there is a copy option on it, but it only copies the item itself and not its children.

And even if I'm ready to move a copy of all the children of the original portfolio item into the new portfolio item, there is no easy way.  I am forced to make copies of each user story and then move them all into the new Portfolio item!

(I see the user story has been given an option to import tasks from another story, I was expecting the same functionality with Portfolio Items as well. )

    Regards,

    Nivi

    Hey Sheri,

Yes, I have this app.   I really appreciate you sharing this with me though. It's just not something I want to ask my users to do.

Making a copy is one of the basic actions that anyone would do. If I have to ask my users to go to a Custom app for doing this, then it's certainly not user friendly for them.

Like I said, all I'm asking for is to be able to at least import children from another portfolio item, and this option is already available with other work item type (e.g. user story- tasks can be imported from another story).

I would expect the same functionalities to exist among all the work item types.

It's really getting hard to remember what functionality is present where now.

    Regards,

    Nivi

Very good points niveditha_nivi!  I actually just tried the custom app and although it does what it says, I'd be very wary on letting my end users run it anyway - it copies almost all the data along with the states which could be problematic.  I agree that it's getting hard to remember where functionality is in the tool, thanks for the reply!

    1. Regarding attachments section being moved to the left panel.  Is it possible to have the location be consistent across Details and Tasks.  In Details, its Description, Notes, Attachments.  In Tasks, its Description, Attachments, Notes.
    2. Also, can the Add New Detail / Task, be permanently available as opposed to having to click it every time you have to add a new item.

Can you please move Defect State and Schedule State to the left side?
There's unused space next to "Status - Ready/Blocked" and these two fields are similar to status.
It'll also move up a few more fields into view on the right side.
