I am increasing the ACID size (MAXACIDSIZE & ORGACIDSIZE). I have performed this on several TEST Lpar's.
The last step of the process says an IPL is required. I did this on the first TEST LPAR and it was successful.
For the next few LPAR's I just shutdown TSS and started TSS pointing to the new SEC files. No errors.
Is the IPL really necessary ? The production SEC file is shared by 3 production LPAR's. It is hard enough to get permission to IPL one system - it will almost be impossible to permission to IPL all three LPAR's at the same time.
Has anyone else done this without the IPL's ? I did contact CA Support and all they told me was that was best practice to do that.

    Thank You

P.S. - I thought I saw this on a report but unable to find it - Is there a display or report that shows which files are allocated or being used by the TSS task.

    Hi Mark,

In my experience since joining Top Secret support, I am not aware of any site that had to IPL to pick up new security files (BDAM and VSAM). A temporary shutdown and restart pointing to the new security files was all that was needed.

In response to the question: Is there a display or report that shows which files are allocated or being used by the TSS task:

You can look at the DD names in the Top Secret startup proc to see which files are used by the TSS task. The possible DD statements you will see include:

SECFILE - primary BDAM security file
BACKUP - backup BDAM security file
    RECFILE - recovery file
AUDIT - audit and tracking file (ATF)
AUDIT2 - second audit and tracking file if using 2 ATFs
    RCACHE - RCACHE hardening database
    CPFFILE - CPF recovery file
VSAMFILE - primary VSAM security file
VSAMAIX - VSAM AIX copy file (used if sharing the security files)
VSMPATH - VSAM path copy file (used if sharing the security files)
VSAMBKUP - backup VSAM security file
SECMIRR - mirror BDAM security file
VSAMIRR - mirror VSAM security file
PARMFILE - Top Secret parameter file
AUTOCMDS - auto commands file (commands to initiate and follow Top Secret initiation)
