Auto-Select on User-Defined Dynamic Lookups

Auto-select returns 'no matches' for some user-defind dynamic lookups and not for others. Not finding a pattern. Auto-select is turned on. Both attributes/lookups migrated from 12.0.6. Query from one our lookups, below:

SELECT
@SELECT:scn.id:id@,
@SELECT:scn.code:code@,
@SELECT:scn.name:name@,
@SELECT:ccn.name:customer_group@

FROM odf_ca_customers scn,
cmn_lookups l,
cmn_captions_nls ccn
WHERE
scn.trwcustomergroup = l.lookup_code
AND l.lookup_type = 'CUSTOMER_OEMGROUP'
AND l.id = ccn.pk_id
AND ccn.TABLE_NAME = 'CMN_LOOKUPS'
AND ccn.language_code = 'en'
AND @FILTER@
@BROWSE-ONLY:
AND scn.active = 1
:BROWSE-ONLY@

Stripping the query down to the following, works:

SELECT @SELECT:scn.id:id@,
@SELECT:scn.name:name@

FROM odf_ca_customers scn
WHERE @FILTER@

Something about the joins on cmn_lookups and/or cmn_captions_nls may be contributing, but don't understand how, yet.
