CA IDMS Tuesday Tip by Edward Gorga, Principal Support Engineer for August 13, 2013.

When defining PTERMs in the SYSGEN for use by LU 6.2 sessions you can specify CONTENTION WINNER or LOSER. The WINNER/LOSER designation determines who will win a contention situation if both nodes attempt to initiate a conversation simultaneously. For LU 6.2 sessions using a multiple session service manager, the contention winner/loser specification in the SYSGEN is only an initial contention status. This status can change after contention negotiation occurs during session initiation.
If all sessions will be initiated by the remote LU, then you should make all local LUs CONTENTION LOSER and all remote LUs CONTENTION WINNER. Similarly if all sessions will be initiated by the local LU, all local LUs should be defined as CONTENTION WINNER and all remote LUs CONTENTION LOSER. If sessions are initiated equally by each LU then you should try to match the initial setting as closely as possible to the actual number of sessions that will be initiated with the partner LU or specify half of the PTERMs WINNER and the other half LOSER. Failure to set this correctly can result in DC001003 STALLED WAITING FOR SESSION errors.
