Hi All.

Here is one of the best practice to upgrade from 12.0.x to 13.1 or higher

Although direct upgrade from 12.0.x to 13.1 or 13.2 is supported, we recommend upgrade in stages, as you might encounter various problems.

The upgrade script itself also runs in stages:

12.1 - 13.0 -> 13.1

As a best practice, every time you upgrade to the next working stage, make sure that you take a backup so that you can roll back to the working version if needed later.

Obviously, take the backup of the current version first.

In short, this is what we recommend:

1. If you are upgrading from 12.1.1 or earlier versions, DO NOT UPGRADE to 13.1 directly though the SUPPORTED UPGRADE PATH sections mentions to upgrade directly in Release Notes , instead use the below steps:

a. Download 13.0 software

b. Upgrade to 13.0 and take backup of both DB and Clarity file system

c. Install JDK 7 and Tomcat 7

d. Copy caches.xml file from Source Folder:

%NIKU_HOME%\.setup\templates\config to Target Folder: %NIKU_HOME%\config

e. Start 13.1 upgrade

Here it is in details:

Since we have been having some issues with the Upgrade from Clarity v12.1.x to v13.1 script, we recommend downloading the Clarity v13.0 installer and the v13.1 installer ISO files separately.

1. Roll back to the 12.1.x database and file system.

2. Confirm the 12.1.x environment is functional and healthy (Take a backup here).

3. Add all XOG rights to Admin user: Go into Clarity on the Admin Side >

Resources, then go to the Global Rights and add all or you can

search on XOG and add all XOG rights to the user.

4. Download the 13.0.0 ISO file from support.ca.com:

* Select Product: CA Clarity PPM Core License - MULTI-PLATFORM

* Select Release: 13.0

* Select Gen Level: 0000

* Select 'Go'

* Then find 'CA Clarity PPM Install Media v13.0, DVD Master, DVD10142443E.iso' and select the download link to download this file to your server.

* Run a CHECKSUM against the iso image, it should be 1.89GB

5. Review and follow these documents as normal to complete the upgrade to v13.0.0 (found at support.ca.com:

* CA Clarity PPM v13.0.0 Installation Guide

* CA Clarity PPM v13.0.0 Change Impact and Upgrade Guide

* CA Clarity PPM v13.0.0 Release Notes

Important Notes:

- Make sure your Java and Apache Tomcat are at the minimum required version for Clarity v13.0.0 and that you are pointing to the appropriate Java version (1.6 or higher patch level 64-bit) and Apache Tomcat folder (6.0.26 or higher patch level 64-bit)

- Copy the caches.xml file from the following source folder to the

appropriate target folder:

For UNIX/Linux:

Source Folder: $NIKU_HOME/.setup/templates/config

Target Folder: $NIKU_HOME/config

For Windows:

Source Folder: %NIKU_HOME%\.setup\templates\config

Target Folder: %NIKU_HOME%\config

6. Once fully complete access the NSA and confirm then start your v13.0.0 services and confirm that Clarity is functional. Also at this point, access the Add-ins and check the Clarity Content Package and make sure your views are updated as needed. (Keep in mind any views not updated that you apply will remove those custom views both system and user level that have been created. Since you are going to v13.0.0 this should not be a large impediment because of the degree of change).

7. Once this is complete and Clarity is functional at v13.0.0, take a backup so if we need to revert back to it for something unforeseen it is not as difficult to back up.

8. Reboot

9. Stop ALL Clarity services (command: service stop all).

10. Download the v13.1 installer ISO file from support.ca.com:

* Select Product: CA Clarity PPM Core License - MULTI-PLATFORM

* Select Release: 13.1

* Select Gen Level: 0000

* Select 'Go'

* Then find 'CA Clarity PPM Install Media v13.1, DVD Master,

DVD08201207M.iso' and select the download link to download this file to

your server.

* Run a CHECKSUM against the iso image, it should be 2.1GB

11. Review and follow these documents as normal to complete the upgrade to

v13.1.0 (found at support.ca.com):

* CA Clarity PPM v13.1.0 Installation Guide

* CA Clarity PPM v13.1.0 Change Impact and Upgrade Guide

* CA Clarity PPM v13.1.0 Release Notes

Important Note:

- Make sure your Java and Apache Tomcat are at the minimum required version for Clarity v13.1.0 and that you are pointing to the appropriate Java version (Java 1.7 or higher patch level 64-bit) and Apache Tomcat folder (7.0.26 or higher patch level 64-bit)

12. Once the upgrade is complete, again ensure the health of the NSA (which has now been renamed to CSA as of Clarity v13.x) by running a Healthcheck.

13. If everything shows up as healthy in the Healthcheck Report, then start your Clarity Services and confirm you can login.

14. Once you are logged into Clarity again, you will want to go to Add-ins and the Clarity Content Add-in Page to confirm all views have been updated appropriately. For any add-ins still not showing installed, you should apply them at this stage due to the nature of the complete redesign. Also any views that you do not update will be referencing code from the potentially v12.1.x code level of Clarity and may hamper full system functionality, so updating your views would be beneficial also.

15. Make sure Clarity is functional.

16. Get a good backup of Clarity folders and database.

17. Apply the latest patch for 13.1.

Have a happy upgrade :)
