CA IDMS Tuesday Tip by Edward Gorga, Principal Support Engineer for September 10, 2013.

In CA IDMS 18.5 there is a new IDMSINFO address space which needs to be started separately to the CV. IDMSINFO uses cross memory services to provide remote monitoring facilities for the IDMS Performance Monitor. It can be run as a batch job or as a started task. When run as a started task, you can specify that it use an address space that can reused when it is terminated. You do this by specifying the REUSASID=YES parameter in the start command:

S IDMSINFO,REUSASID=YES

Another requirement is that the reusable ASID feature needs to be activated in z/OS by specifying REUSASID(YES) in SYS1.PARMLIB member DIAGxx. Prior to z/OS 1.2 this defaulted to REUSASID(NO), since z/OS 1.12 it defaults to REUSASID(YES). If the parameter is set to NO, the reusable ASID feature is not used and the following error will be issued when IDMSINFO is shut down and the ASID will not be available until the next IPL.: IEF352I ADDRESS SPACE UNAVAILABLE
