Hi folks. I have been compiling an (unofficial) dSeries Cookbook from a number of sources for quite a while, and believe it is now ready for mainstream consumption. I have attached the current revision to this message. If you find this material useful, deficient, or incorrect; please respond with your comments. I'm particulary interested in new topics, so if you have some material, please email any content to me at alan.monument@ca.com for potential inclusion in future revisions. Regards, Alan

At first glance I thought this is the same cookbook found in the 11.3 bookshelf, but it isn't.

I am going to take a longer look at this.  Thank you for sharing.

Attached is the most current version of the CA WA DE Cook Book.  There have been many updates and some reformatting of topics since the last upload.  New topics include:

    • Disaster Recovery (DR) process for the CA WA DE Server
    • Running a Job to interact with a Windows Application
    • Skipping non-essential workloads during Disaster days
    • Delaying job execution by less than a minute
    • Using the Desktop Client's SNMP Messages Viewer
    • Support: Severity 1 Cases

    Enjoy!!  smiley

Awesome!!!!   Thank you for updating the cookbook.

I'm desperately looking for some system related jobs.  Like searching in the error.txt file for a string and then setting up notification.

Also setting up a job to alert us when an agent goes inactive.   Then notify us via emu or tivoli.

This is for D-Series  R11  desktop.  We are running into a lot of issues lately where D-Series just quits communicating with different agents.
Not so much that the agent is down .  It is more like the D-Seires app can't see it due to network issues.

So I am trying to setup some good notification before D-Series goes into not responding.

    Funnn.

I will read over your cookbook.  I saw where you can setup snmp  to send alerts.

Any suggestions just let me know.  :-)

    Thank you

    Hermien

    Hi Hermien,

Glad you like the Cook Book. I have a couple of ideas when reading your email. See if any of these help...

Like searching in the error.txt file for a string and then setting up notification.

    I have a text file....

    [cid:image020.jpg@01CF2808.BD196040]

If I create a Text File Reading and Monitoring job...

    [cid:image022.jpg@01CF2808.BD196040]

This will read the text file C:\Temp\Testfile.txt (shown earlier) and look for a text string “Error-string” in this case. I have not ticked/selected the Exists box, so this job will go to a successful completion if the error text does not exist. When I run this job I get the following...

    [cid:image023.jpg@01CF2808.BD196040]

All good....no error string. Now if I add the error string to the file....

    [cid:image024.jpg@01CF2808.BD196040]

And run the job again, the job fails as it has found the error sting and you can raise some notifications based on the FAILED condition...

    [cid:image025.jpg@01CF2808.BD196040]

Also setting up a job to alert us when an agent goes inactive.

I don’t have an immediate solution, however checkout the new r11.3 Dashboards in the Monitor perspective. Double click on SNMP Messages to see the messages DE is generating....

    [cid:image026.jpg@01CF2808.BD196040]

Monitor this when you are having your agent connection issues and see if DE is generating anything here that relates to the agent connectivity. If it is then you could trap these SNMP messages in your SNMP manager and perform some additional automation based on that.
