  • 1.  Exporting GANTT in 13.2 To Excel

    Posted Oct 03, 2013 09:04 AM
    Hello,
Can anyone shed light on whether there is an option on the GANTT window (which opens into a seperate windows) to export the entire list of tasks?

I understand on the Tasks page, i can change the key task filter option to all and then export the list out ofcourse but wanted to ping the community on whether we can do it on the GANTT.
    Thank you,
    Chintal

Not answering your question direclty, but...
Generally if you don't see export to Excel button, drop down menu item or such then that is not available.
Regarding specifically Gantt the task list is in many cases text which can select (from multiple pages if needed) copy and paste to Excel.
The Gantt chart itself is usually an image wihch you can save with right click menu and then paste the saved image to Excel.

    Check also ideation for this.

Now answering your question directly the only part from the above that applies to the Gantt chart in v13.2 is that if there is no Export to Excel in the actions drop down you cannot export to excel.

With normal copy, you can only copy task names and other stuff from the grid one cell at a time, which is impractical.
The alternative is to take a screenshot, but after pasting that to Excel the text is not editable.

The Gantt chart itself it not an image. So you cannot copy that like you would copy normally images from web pages.
The only option there is print screen again.

There is Select all option in the right click menu.
If you Select all when there are no bars visible in the Gantt section you can paste special to Excel and choose Unicode text. Then all text will be pasted.
Filtering out blanks out from the first column will give you the text in the grid.

If you have Gantt bars visible when you select all, your only paste special option in bitmap which pastes only the text from the frame.

The best option is to use OWB which comes with Clarity.
Selecting all in the task area will select text and the Gantt bars.
Paste will paste text only, but pasting into an image processing software (eg. mspaint) and making another copy from there will allow to paste the Gantt chart bars.
