Spec KB:  How to generate core dump files in Spectrum without truncation for Red Hat Linux

    Description:

The release notes of Spectrum 9.3 contain the following entry on page 31.

Running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux v6.3, any core dump that is generated when the SpectroSERVER crashes is truncated. Visit the following website for detailed information about the known defect that causes this issue: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=759213.

Make the following modifications to generate the core dump files without truncation. Follow these steps:

    1.   Log in to the server as "root".

    2.   Create a backup copy of the following file in a safe location:
    /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern

    3.   Execute the following command: echo "core.%p" >
    /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern

If a SpectroSERVER crash occurs, the crash details that are logged are not truncated. These core dump files are helpful for analyzing any issue underlying a crash.

If we follow these steps these settings will not survive after the next system reboot as/proc file system is virtual.
