Setting a multi-valued read-only filter

I'm trying to set up a required filter for a portlet and I want it to default to multiple values. I also want this filter to be read-only, so that they can't change it. I've tried a couple of different options so far, but nothing has worked. When I make it read-only, it shows a blank value and if I click filter, it displays the error message, "All required fields need to be filled out." I then tried just making it hidden, but it didn't return any results when there should have been several rows returned. Is this a bug in Clarity, or has anyone had luck doing something like this?
