The "Disposable Environment"

When going on an engagement with the APM Partner Mike Risser, I was impressed how he easily created "just in time" Introscope dashboards to solve a situation and then delete them.

The same idea also apples to APM Customer Experience. Here are some examples:

1) Create a business application/service named "SANDBOX" to place all autodiscovered transactions that you wish to analyze before moving into production or just to analyze a particular situation.
When all transactions are moved into production, then delete the business application/service.

2) Using the canned or semi-canned (Customer Export Tools) reports, create ad-hoc reports for special situations, user groups, timeframes etc.

3) Changing slow time thresholds. First a low number to get defects then raising it once production ready.

4) Temporarily creating transactions when you do not know the application at all or do not have access to the application development staff. Once you understand the user/session/user group identifiers and what parameter/value pairs can make up an application, then the definition can be thrown away.

As time allows, I will expand this to a public tech note.

What are your examples of "throw-away" transactions and reporting?
