Cost Plan Period Type - Defaults

Hi,  I've a question around the use of default Cost Plan Period Type values.  When our users currently create a new Cost Plan, the default provided is Quarters.   Is it possible to default this value to something else?   If so, how is the achieved?  - My second question is,  is there  any downside to  using  quarters (or annually)?   For example, can financial costs be broken down just as easily if you use months as opposed to quarters?   Or is it best to use smaller time periods (i.e. Months) to allow a 'cleaner' rollup of financial information?  Many thanks,Nick Miller
