Is there a way to create/copy a Program into a New Project. We have need to take the informaion on a program and also make it a project.
Yes you can. Once you create using the New From Template and chose a program, a program will be created, and then you will have to uncheck the Program checkbox to convert it to project
This works but I when you do this I no longer have the program, it converts it to a project. I want to have a project based off the program so there is both a program and a project with the same data.

"I want to have a project based off the program so there is both a program and a project with the same data" - You cannot have actuals for a program (actuals are only rolled up to the program).
You can, though, have a master project (as a program), and a subproject (a project), you do your financial / effort roll up from subproject to master (which would behave as a program)
Yes, I knew about that and it works but I wanted some key information from the master project (program) copied to the subproject (project).
"I wanted some key information from the master project (program) copied to the subproject (project)" - You can create a process for this.
If you want to create a new project, you can use a process to convert your program to a project.
You will need to set up a mapping first using XOG. where you define which fields in the Program you want passed to which fields in the new project Once you have done that, you can use the Convert Object System Action to select the mapping you created and the process will create your new project for you.
I described how to do something similar for another customer in this thread:
Convert Clarity Idea into Incident
I hope this helps.

This is how it works for me:
- Click "New from Template"
- Select a program to copy from
- Click "Next"
- Complete creation page and hit save
- I now have a new program, based on the program I copied from, with content copied as expected - but it is still a program
- Uncheck the Program checkbox
- I now have a project, with the data copied from the program
I'm not seeing that the 'copy from template' method results in a project - if what I copy from is a program, I get a program; if what I copy from is a project, I get a project. I'm a bit confused by the thread, if I can summarize:
- You create new from template, using a program as source
- Your end result is a project - isn't this what you wanted? (though it seems that the uncheck Program step is missed)
If I read between the lines, I might guess that the original program that you copied from got converted to a project. If so, I'd then ask if you now have two projects with same content or do you just have the one project that once was a program? After a few more questions to confirm user error wasn't involved, I'd suggest contacting Clarity Support as this is very different behavior from what I'm seeing.
The steps I followed above, which work for me, are fine. But if you are looking for something more formal, something that perhaps can be selected as an Action within a program, Jeanne's suggestion is solid.
