Does soft booking a resource impact the project schedule?
You have to clarify that.
It does not affect the existing schedules other than possible indication of overloading.
What it basically does is it sets the resource availability in the project.
In Clarity that is used for new schedules and re-scheduling.
In OWB the PM can schedule more hours than are available and even schedule the resource outside the availability window.
"It does on affect the existing schedules other than possible indication of overloading." - I was under the impression that it would be 'cause of resource being hard-booked more than the availability.
Soft Allocations represent the forecasted hours needed for a particular resource based upon a PM’s initial assessments.
For organizations using "Mixed Booking" as well, the delta b/w the "Soft Booking" and "Hard Booking" what resources are “available” and what resources are “needed” to complete the project.
From here, there would be 2 options -
1. Continue with the planning and wait until Task Assignments are made
2. Commit the resources ("Hard Book" them)
Please correct me if otherwise
Another typo in my post, it should be
It does not affect the existing schedules
That looks now like a trick question to me.
The trick is that if there is an existing schedule it can be only for the resources that are already booked/allocated to the project.
So I was thinking of if you change the soft booking.
My guess is that initially when your resources are softbooked the timeperiod limits their availability to be assigned to tasks and the amount booked should be the hours per day that can be scheduled.
In Clarity that would be it, while in OWB the PM can override the softbooked limits if I recall correctly.
Would have to verify that in practice..
