Is there a DCMA 14-Point Schedule Analyzer for Workbench?
OOTB there is not and I have not heard of such being available from a third party.
Man of the things look such that could be developed to display in a portlet in Clarity.
Many 3rd party partners are providing add-ons to MS Proj. to make verification of schedule quality less labor intensive. before we fully engage WB wanted to know if there were equivalent (MS Proj) add-on capabilities. So, switching gears, has anyone developed a front end scheduling wizard? Wizard would ask questions that assist it in laying out the tasks.
Author used to do that, but it was dropped in Niku 6 or Niku 7. (Clarity is now in version 14)
A methodologyis a set of repeatable processes and instructionsfor efficiently
and systematically achieving a goal. It provides you with a standard sequence
of steps that are required toplan and complete projects.
With Author, you can record your organization’s best business practices in a
custom methodology. After the methodology is created or authored, project
planners and estimators use it to plan new projects. A well-designed
methodology can speed up project planning, provide repeatable processes, and
set up standards across the entire organization.
When you author a methodology, you create profile pages with questions, or
factors, designed to prompt the project planner for specific information. The
answers the planner providesduring profiling can result in Work Breakdown
Structure (WBS) recommendations and project size adjustments, as well as
contribute to estimating formula calculations. For planning and estimating
subsequent projects, the information gathered in the profile pages is
invaluable. You can use this information to locate projects with similar
attributes in the repository, and then use these projects as a basis for WBS
planning or estimating.
You can also author the WBS hierarchies, roles, dependencies, and estimating
cases your organization uses. This provides project planners and estimators
with libraries of objects from which they can select.
Using Author with Clarity, 1e 14
Author provides a default methodologies: Risk method, Status method, HR Sample
method, HRSampleKI method, which may simplify the authoring process for you. If
it meets your organization’s requirements, you do not need to create your own
methodology; you can customize any Authormethod or use it as is. For more
information about the Author methods, see “Using a Clarity Method”on 21.
The people best suited toauthor an organization’s methodology are those most
familiar with previous, successful project plans. Some organizations have a
dedicated methodologist onstaff devoted to authoring best practices.
In other organizations, the person who authors a methodology is the person most
interested in improving organizational practices. In either case, the methodology
author should have:
thorough knowledge of the organization’s business practices
familiarity with successful projects the organization has completed
knowledge of factors that affect project plan decisions
basic knowledge of project management principles
thorough knowledge of the components involved in building a successful plan,
including WBS structures, deliverables, roles, estimates
some experience with a project scheduling tool, such as Workbench or
The information you need to gather beforeauthoring a methodology is detailed in
the section “Before You Create the Methodology”on 16.
That is no longer supported.
Where can I get a download of author?
First it was a stand alone product.
Then it was integrated.
When it was dropped the methodologies created were support for a while and then dropped I think in r8.
Talk to your CA account manger.or a partner who has been there more than ten years.
I am starting to recall parts of it.
When the author was dropped there was a write up what could be used instead.
Your CA account manager might be able to find that.
The author created these methodologies/methods which are no longer supported.
What you can do you can create a number of templates eg for large and small projects in IT or HR or where your needs are.
When you create a project from a template you can scale it.
Then you can copy tasks from another project (eg template)
Once you have your WBS you can use Estimating to further scale it.
Delete all ETC in all tasks in order
Clarity 7.5 Release Notes Page 3
In Clarity 7.0 the feature of planning from a template was introduced. This feature provided
much of the utility of Author and the corresponding project manager functionality in the browser.
With Clarity 7.5, the remaining functionality that was previously part of the Author module, as
well as some capabilities from a former product known as Niku Planner, has been subsumed in
the Project Manager module. This functionality includes:
– Task-by-task arithmetic estimating rules
– Top-down and bottom-up estimating added as interactive, process-driven feature
– Dynamic sub-pages (when optional conditions are met) to replace the profiling wizard
– Task Planning Library to browse a template to add specific tasks (or phases)
Clarity provides customers a means to migrate their Author methods to this new functionality
and customers are encouraged to do so. All activeAuthor methods will be deactivated during
the upgrade to Clarity 7.5 but customers can reactivate them if they plan to continue to use the
current Author functionality at least initially and migrate to the new functionality at a later date.
