How useful is this functionality? How can this be linked with projects when the instance has to be used for recording vacation or sick leaves of resources?
Does not sound like it is very useful if your other work has to be of those types.
Even use for alignment to strategy sound unfeasible.
Other work is described as follows : "Used to capture data specific to steady-state work performed by CA Clarity PPM resources. Other work can represent overhead tasks such as management and maintenance. Use this investment type to catalogue the investments that are incurring costs and benefits and are not projects, assets, applications, ideas, services, or products but that need to be included in your investment portfolio".
If you have the PPM Essentials accelerator installed then this object should include teams for "Holiday", "Personal Leave" and "Vacation Time". If you assign resources to these teams then they should be able to record time to these activities on their time sheets. Having a suitable input type code to go with this will help with the tracking of the finances.
With in a project if you want to differentiate between billable and non-billable you can use input type code.
So if you are limited to vacation and sick leave in other work which I take do not have any monetary benefit what is the usability in portfolios?
So, we can use "other work" to capture hours filled for other works of the resources like vacation, illness, or absence which are not part of project acitvities.
Is installation of "PPM Essentials accelerator" mandatory to use "Other work" ? as we do not want it to do and use other work by creating our own set of other works for the resources.

Do you have any document on "Other Work" ? CA document will also work..We tried to find it on the site but could not found any.
I just played around by creating one illness work and assigned 2-3 resources. After assignment, we can see in their timesheet a different section called "Other time". yes, this work is not related to any project and is independent(only can see the difference in the timesheets of the resources assigned).

We use Projects for Exception time (PTO, Jury Duty, Bereavement, and the like) and steady state efforts. We use Other Work for differential time (On Call, Shift Differential, etc.). We wanted to seperate out the differential time on the timesheets so that it was easier to see what was differential vs. standard hours (40/week). In addition, we use Other Work for small work efforts (40-120 hours), and Projects for implementation projects (>120 hours).

It does not answer why would you have sick leave and vacation among profitable business projects nor
does Janet have them in her portfolios.
