Clarity

  • 1.  Upgrade strategy for 13.0.1.6 to 14.1

    Posted Nov 12, 2014 10:51 AM

    Hi Folks,

I'd like to get some input/thoughts on the strategy folks are following to bring Clarity from 13.0.x to 14.1.

Here's the scenario of components that need to be touched as identified in the release notes:

    • Upgrade Clarity App Servers OS from Redhat 5.10 to 6.4
    • Upgrade to Tomcat 7
    • Upgrade to JDK 1.7
    • Upgrade Oracle DB from 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.4
    • Upgrade to CABI 3.3 SP2
    • Firewalls everywhere

Without getting into dependencies and timelines here are the steps that I'm thinking of following:

    Generic
    Setup Network Connectivity
    Upgrade Clarity App Servers
    Current Servers
    Replace tomcat with Tomcat 7.0.52
Replace JDK with JDK 1.7 update 55 or higher and update environment variables.
    Remove Clarity customizations
Back up Clarity app server (VM snapshot)
Run Clarity upgrade/install scripts and capture any issues.
Come up with steps to prevent upgrade issues and re-run script until it completes in one run.
Export DB Schemas and Import into Oracle 11.2.0.4
Backup application directory and move to new server
    New App Servers
Procure VM's and install RH 6.4 64 Bit(no upgrade path from RedHat 5.10)
Add JDK 1.7 update 55 or higher and update environment variables.
    Add Apache Tomcat 7.0.52
Backup properties.xml in each node in the cluster, extract upgraded clarity directory
Re-configure Application Data sources to point to new Oracle Instance
    Re-integrate cusomizations
    Upgrade CABI to CABI 3.3 SP2 (BOXI 3.1 SP7)
    Replace App Server for BOBJ.
Keep the existing one running while the new one is being built.
Setup connectivity to DWH and Transactional DB
Install and configure BOBJ (including SSO)
Migrate BOBJ content from old server to new one
    Upgrade DB Server
    Install Oracle 11.2.0.4
Configure Oracle DB to CA's recommended optimal values
    Configure Our Specific Schemas (staging/read-only)

    Best regards,
