Spam and Reporting Abuse in the Communities

Today, the CA Communities team noticed an influx of spam being posted to some of our communities. As a result, we immediately began the moderation process of reporting this content, adding it to the moderation queue, and then deleting it. We apologize to anyone who got notifications about the spam-related content being posted to their communities.

While it can be a frustrating situation to deal with spam, I thought it might be a good opportunity to talk on the larger topic of moderation and abuse within the CA Communities.

    Reporting Abuse/Spam

If you notice or get a notification for a piece of content that you believe to be abusive, spam, or a violation of CA Communities Terms and Conditions, we urge you to use the a “report abuse” button located to the right of every piece of content within the CA Communities.

When an item is reported, it is provisionally removed from the community and routed to a moderation queue which is monitored by the CA Communities team, who then accepts or rejects the content accordingly. If a piece of content is deemed to be permissible, it will re-appear on the community as soon as it is accepted. If a piece of content is rejected, the author has a chance to revise the reported content and have it restored to the community before it is removed permanently.

If you choose to report a piece of content, please provide as much information as possible in the comments section. Any info available will help the CA Communities team to determine the validity of the post and allow us to decide whether it should be removed from the community or not.

    Moderation

For users in the CA Communities who have moderation rights, one thing to be aware of is the fact that you may be notified if spam or a report abuse situation occurs in a community in which you have moderator rights. Please bear with us. We understand that these notifications can be overwhelming, but the only way to avoid them is by downgrading your permission settings. If you receive a moderation request, we ask that you please do not accept or reject any content unless you have been specifically asked to do so. If you're not sure whether you should respond to a reported piece of content or not, please feel free to reach out to myself or any member of the CA Communities team for clarity.
