Getting alerts into our Ticketing system

We're running our alerts from Nuimsoft through Exchange into our ticketing system. This works fine, but I'm wondering what would happen if OUR exchange failed. We're monitoring it, but if the service stopped and we didn't get any alerts, we'd be blind.  How have other Nimsoft users addressed this?  Do you have a backup email gateway or some other tool monitoring Exchange?
