I could use some help. Is there a simple way to setup nimsoft to send out an all clear alarm when an issue has resolved itself (for instance a down connection is back online) ???
Most probes already do this, which is what clears the alarm that originally appeared in the alarm list.
Are you looking for email notification or something like that? Or do you just not want the alarms to close when they clear? You can disable that default behavior by unchecking the Accept automatic 'acknowledgement' of alarm. in the Message Suppression tab of the NAS GUI.
Also, to receive notifications once something has cleared you'll need to have the green/clear alarm filter enabled within the NAS AutoOperator too.
Thanks for the reply. I am actually looking for the nas to send another alarm stating the issue has cleared.
Can you explain why you would want it to do that? There may be another way to achieve your goal.
The idea is to be informed when an issue that triggered an alarm has been resolved. An email may suffice in this situation. How would I go about configuring this?
If you want to be informed by looking at the alarm console, disabling the automatic closing of alarms when they clear is probably the best way. Then anything that has a status of clear (green) is resolved. You would need to manually go through and cleanup those cleared alarms on occasion or write a script to do that periodically.
If you just want email and prefer to let the cleared alarms close automatically, you should be able to generate email by creating an AO profile that matches the clear messages and uses the email action. It should be easy to test this by using the nimalarm command to generate test alarm messages. Or you can generate test alarm messages from the NAS GUI.
