Does NMS have the ability to look at the bandwidth util and calculate the 95th percentile and graph that calculation? I understand this is a specific calculation. An idea of how this would be done would be good as well.
The Report Engine has this built into it - for a POC it may suffice, if this doesn't give them exactly what they'd need they could use Unified Reports/iReporter to write something custom. Remko wrote something recently for this and posted it on the GoogleGroups forums.
Also, just in case you run into this, be sure to know which 95th percentile the prospect/customer wants. For example, I've been told by customers that the report_engine probe's 95th percentile calculation isn't correct for bandwidth utilization billing based on 95th percentile...quote from customer:
"The nimsoft 95th percentile is only on 1 dimension of bandwidth, input or output. If you select the aggregate graphs and select 95th percentile, it doubles the data or produces (2) 95th percentile lines. All 95th percentile bandwidth graphs are done on the greater sample at the time of the measurement. You will see that the 95th percentile number in any program that offers 95th percentile bandwidth has taken into account both side of the interface, and is using the greater of the two. "
So in this case, using Remko's query, and then building an iReport or dashboard reflecting this, is more accurate for interface bandwidth utilization that would be used for billing based on 95th percentile.
By the way, the QoS Charts portlet will have 95th percentile availabe on it soon too.
