So we are talking CIFS shares here. Not my strong suite.
I doubt you'll be able to have IO monitoring of random \\shares that people go to. Then you'd need something that autodetects these shares, and they are per account. So, if the robot is running as account FOO, and the user BAR goes to \\shares, then the FOO user will not see it. At least, that is my understanding of shares in windows.
The only probe that I know autodetect disks/shares is cdm, and it can't do IO.
If you have the share mounted (permanently so all users see it), I would pressume the IO metrics for it is available as a performance counter and you could use ntperf to check it.
