Hellow Nimsoft Community,
Nimsoft Montor 6 is now GA, have you had a chance to install it? Please provide your feedback.
- What features standout?
- What do you like ot not like?
I completed an upgrade of NMS and UMP this week and it went fairly smooth. I had to do a few things for prep first and fix a few things after. But I have to say the portal is running faster and the overall NMS performance has improved.Steps I had to take for a good migration included :
I just updated production and it went smoothly.
I really like the new unified manager, it's just the kind of product to show to current and especially potential customers.
I'm excited about the automated deployment engine, even though it doesn't work properly with Windows 2008R2. That is also my one complaints this far: It seems ADE is java based and this causes problems with newer windows versions. I do really wonder why deployment to windows based machined has not been done with native windows tools, I don't think there'd be anything to stop deploying to unix and linux machines with the java based tools. After all, the principal method of deploying to windows based machines seems to be the same as say with psexec or any other product that has a push feature
Will install it only if I have to, perhaps the last day NMS 5.61 runs out of support, saw various presentations of NMS6+UMP6 its to "playish" for us, lotsa gimmicks and drag+drop-Stuff we dont use, think its a version to satisfy the "iPad/iPhone" guys in Management, and those "facebook"-Attitude with chatting etc. because it is so "****".
I've been pretty happy with much of it. The Unified Manager is a great feature that is long overdue. I haven't gotten ADE to work properly, but there were a lot of bugs with ACE on its first iteration; I gather that's an offering that will take a little maturing.
I installed 6.20 over 6.0 / 2.6.2 yesterday.
The installation went fast and smooth.
For the UMP layout I had to define a new default lar file.
I did not find a proper way to overwrite the existing user's layout with the new one.
Since they are all AD users, I ended up deleting them in UMP. At the next login they'll get the new layout.
The new USM portlet looks nice and there are interesting features.
Some issues I found:
The automatic deployment is currently not in our scope.
