I'm trying to set up a dashboard to show information on my company's most critical servers, but I'm not sure how to set it up so that I can receive emails when some of the servers go down.
I am running UMP 2.5.2 and NMS 5.601 in case that helps.
I would recommend starting small; just send email to yourself. Then when you have a chance to verify the configuration works as you desire, you can send the email to a list. It is easy to setup an AO profile that causes you to get the same message every five minute for a single alarm.
Do I have to install the emailgtw probe on each robot I want to have emails sent from, or just the robot that is the hub of the network?
You only need one emailgtw, and even though you could deploy more, I think one is the most common deployment scenario. I would recommend putting the emailgtw on the core hub as you suggested. Sometimes it may need to go elsewhere in order to access the SMTP server, but hopefully that will not be an issue for you.
You can install the emailgwy anywhere but if you have it not on the primary hub you will need to create a queue to forward anything with the subject of email to whatever hub you have the emailgwy on.
