I see the $profile_name variable in the messages. I want to get the host name in there and $hostname doesnot work.

In addition to $profile_name, the only other variable I see in the help is $display_name. Then there are a few other variables used in the default alarm messages, including $state, $expected_state, $credential, and $expected_credential. These are probably the only variables you can be sure are supported.
I doubt $hostname would exist as a probe variable, since the variables tend to be things specific to the probe, whereas the hostname is not. The hostname appears in other fields in the alarm message, so that might be the rationale for why the probe does not have a variable for it. I agree that could be useful.
You could open a support request with Nimsoft to find out for sure what variables are supported, since most of this is speculation on my part.
