  • 1.  CA API Gateway 8.3.00 released

    Posted Mar 17, 2015 02:29 AM

I am pleased to announce that version 8.3 of the CA API Gateway has officially been released.  This release contains the following new features and enhancements:

    NEW Gateway Migration Utility (GMU)

Built on top of the existing REST-Management API, the GMU provides a fully featured command line migration functionality for the API Gateway.  The GMU provides the ability to securely migrate partial or complete Gateway policy environments with dependencies, map entities, and apply templates to policy bundles for use in migration scenarios.  The GMU exposes a fully featured command line interface that allows user to script or automate migration functions.

    NEW Cassandra Assertion

The new Cassandra assertion allows users to read from or write to Cassandra data stores in their service policies.

    JSON Web Token (JWT) Assertion

The JWT assertion is now available in the API Gateway.  It has also been enhanced to support JSON Web Encryption (JWE).

    OAuth Toolkit Enhancements

OTK productivity and performance improvements are included with the API Gateway.

CA API Gateway Product documentation is now available online!

The CA API Gateway technical product documentation is now available in a new wiki format. Using the CA API Gateway wiki, you can:

    • Search for Gateway configuration and Policy Manager documentation
    • Post questions and comments, and share information with other CA API Gateway users
    • Rate topics
    • Export content to PDF or EPUB formats
    • View the latest documentation from any Web-enabled device

To access the CA API Gateway documentation, visit http://wiki.ca.com/gateway. Be sure to review the topic Tips: Search, Navigate, ePUB for useful information to get you started.

The 8.3 release also addresses a number of product issues and enhancements, a complete list can be found in the release notes.

    Hi Aaron,

GMU is now replacing one part of the ESM. So there are only monitoring and reporting with their limited capabilities.

What is the plan for the ESM in the future? Is there a future for the ESM?

    Hi Heiko,

The ESM continues to be a CA supported product, and provides functionality that is not available in the Gateway today - namely a graphical migration tool, monitoring, and reporting.  We are currently looking at moving some of the existing functionality from the ESM to the Gateway, and migration one of those functional areas.

    Hi Aaron,

    thanks for your answer.

I think the main issue with ESM are the not supported Encapsulated assertions, see my idea: ESM support for migration of encapsulated assertions

As graphical migration tool the ESM is very useful, but the supported features should be in sync with GMU.

Please consider that, because the Encapsulated assertions are a really good features, which allows us to write very complex reusable policies.

    Kind regards

    Heiko

    Hi Heiko,

    Understood and considered .

Although we have only released a command-line version of the new migration functionality in 8.3, we fully intend to follow up (in the future) with an update to our graphical migration tool that matches the functionality present in the GMU, including support for encapsulated assertions.

    Hi Aaron,

Is this release 8.3 tested to be working with API Portal 3.0?

    Hi Michael,

Version 3.0 of the API Developer Portal is not yet compatible with API Gateway 8.3.00. Please refrain from upgrading the API Gateway used with API Developer Portal until either A) QA gives the green-light that they are in fact perfectly compatible, or B) a patch is released for API Developer Portal to bring it in line with API Gateway version 8.3.00 for greater compatibility.

All API Gateway's that are not linked with an API Developer Portal, however, can be upgraded to version 8.3.00.

In the API Management Support Portal, we actually have a Knowledge Base (KB) article which reflects compatibility and is updated as needed. It is located here: https://na3.salesforce.com/articles/Knowledge_Base/API-Gateway-Compatibility-with-the-API-Developer-Portal-and-Mobile-API-Gateway?popup=true (NOTE: You must be signed in to the Support Portal to view it. I am currently updating this article as we speak to include the latest compatibility information for version 8.3.00. Please check that article later today or tomorrow for the latest information.)

    Hi Michael,

Just a quick update / follow-up: Shortly after my earlier comment, the API Gateway version 8.3.00 was approved by QA for compatibility with API Developer Portal version 3.0.

I hope that helps answer your question.
