For those who may have missed today's great chat I've posted the chat text below. Be sure to join us to the next PPM Office Hours in May!

04/09/2015    10:00:17 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:

Hi Everyone - We'l be starting in just a few minutes. Please hold your questions until we announce the start. Thanks!

04/09/2015    10:07:01 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:

Hi All - We have a conflicting CA PPM meeting that has pulled a bunch of CA folks away. So we're going to start but we might be relying on some of the non-CA experts I see on here for help as well:)

04/09/2015    10:07:37 AM    from Erich Kissel to Everyone:

Hello  I have had many PPM PROCESS discussions with fellow practitioners over the past few years, and think that recording and sharing (CA Community site, YouTube . . .) such “roundtables” may add value to the group.  Would anyone else find that valuable?  Any topic ideas?  Examples of issues affecting my group right now are:

    • Influence without Ownership – PPM Dashboards driving business value

    • Driving towards PPM value maturity – process 1st, system 2nd

    • Hedging PPM tool investment with upfront simple and effective processes

    • Doing more with less within the PPM support team – we just had 42% reduction and handled it well

    • How is Agile methodology folding into the current PPM models

04/09/2015    10:10:23 AM    from Tim to Everyone:

Due to Oracle's end of life announcement, my company is in progress of removing Java 7 from user machines and installing Java 8.  Is there any response plan from CA to provide support to those who need to be able to use the Java 8 JVM in conjunction with the Schedule Connect tool?

04/09/2015    10:10:33 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:

@Everyone - Any input for Erich?

04/09/2015    10:13:07 AM    from Chris Flynn to Everyone:

Has there been any improvement to the collaboration section in 14.2. Has CA made it an option to save back to PPM directly from a third party app like Microsoft Word.

04/09/2015    10:13:08 AM    from Mark Morrow to Everyone:

From Erich's question, Yes, agree that YouTube would be a great channel for sharing process roundtable topics.  It would be nice to view those whenever time allows.

04/09/2015    10:13:59 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

@Tim: Java is packaged with Schedule Connect.  A change would be in considered in a next release.  Currently PM team is reviewing the PAS for the next release.

04/09/2015    10:14:33 AM    from Mark Morrow to Everyone:

To add to Tim's comment, we need to move to server support for Java 8.  My ISS department is killing me over this topic right now, asking what I am doing to mitigate this risk each day . . .

04/09/2015    10:14:47 AM    from Lowell Wetzel to Everyone:

@Kathryn What version of Java does PPM 14.2 use?

04/09/2015    10:16:06 AM    from Tim to Everyone:

@Kathryn, considering end of support for Java 7 is this month and announced a year ago, why was support of Java 8 not provided in any prior release?

04/09/2015    10:16:10 AM    from Liz Williamson (CA) to Everyone:

@Lowell, 14.2 uses latest JRE 1.7 included in Java 7.

04/09/2015    10:17:01 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

@Chris Flynn : There has not been any enhancements to the Collaboration functionality in the latest release 14.2.  I suggest looking a the Communities Ideas for an enhancement idea related to this topic and if there are ideas that not not matching what you want, please log a new one with as much detail as possible on what you desire.

04/09/2015    10:18:06 AM    from Lowell Wetzel to Everyone:

@Liz - the problem is that I have conflicts with my environment as well - they upgraded us to Java 8 and I have to keep reinstalling Java7 in order to XOG

04/09/2015    10:19:07 AM    from Esteban Sanchez to Everyone:

java 8 it's mucho more strict in the security model

04/09/2015    10:19:28 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

@Tim: CA has not tested Java 8 with prior releases.  You can use it and if you find any issues, and we can replicate on separate system we can investigate.

04/09/2015    10:20:00 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

@Lowell : you can have both 7&8 installed in your local PC and just switch the JAVA_HOME variable

04/09/2015    10:21:01 AM    from Esteban Sanchez to Everyone:

the java home variable not change the jre only the jdk on the workstation

04/09/2015    10:21:04 AM    from Lowell Wetzel to Everyone:

I have to reinstall Java7 in order to get it to show up in my Java control panel

04/09/2015    10:21:08 AM    from Mark Morrow to Everyone:

Java 8 on server causes BG to not run.

04/09/2015    10:21:24 AM    from Lowell Wetzel to Everyone:

      for my desktop

04/09/2015    10:22:09 AM    from Esteban Sanchez to Everyone:

in some cases do you have include the site in the exception of java security

04/09/2015    10:23:01 AM    from Nika Hadzhikidi (CA) to Everyone:

@Lowell : if there is an issue with Java 7, ensure you uninstall both 7 and 8, then install 7, and 8. Once done, set up your JAVA_HOME System environmental variable to point to Java 7, and restart cmd before trying to XOG. This should resolve your issue. JAVA_HOME variable is only used for Clarity so you can successfully have both on your PC.

04/09/2015    10:23:57 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:

      Ready for more questions!

04/09/2015    10:24:29 AM    from Esteban Sanchez to Everyone:

      - what change in the MsProject integrator 14.2 whith in 14.1?

04/09/2015    10:26:02 AM    from Tim to Everyone:

@Kathryn, does that mean that I can expect to receive support if I need to open a case related to use of Java 8 with Schedule Connect?

04/09/2015    10:27:10 AM    from John W. George (CA Technologies) to Everyone:

@Esteban - the MSP changes in 14.2 are documented in the 14.2 Release Notes. Here is a link: https://wiki.ca.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=206822258#ReleaseNotes(OnPremise)-EnhancedFeatures

04/09/2015    10:27:55 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

@Tim: I am sorry for my confusing words ... it means you are welcome to use Java 8 ; it is not supported ; you would have to revert to Java 7 to rule out Java 8 as the cause.

04/09/2015    10:27:55 AM    from Esteban Sanchez to Everyone:

      thanks.

04/09/2015    10:30:16 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:

Must be more questions out there! Or a good joke maybe to share?

04/09/2015    10:30:36 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:

      *clean joke please

04/09/2015    10:30:57 AM    from Esteban Sanchez to Everyone:

The issue seen on 13.3 "Process triggering when starting condition is not met" it's back in 14.2. how do you resolve it?

04/09/2015    10:32:27 AM    from Lowell Wetzel to Everyone:

What's the syntax to connect a Portlet to the master object?  For example, if I have a Portlet that is to filter based on the task, what is the syntax for connecting that Portlet to the Task you are browsing?

04/09/2015    10:33:25 AM    from Kate Holland (CA) to Everyone:

@Esteban - if you are referring to CLRT-77179, the defect was fixed in13.3 patch 12 which as released after we already hit code freeze for 14.2 . . it is targeted to also be fixed in the first patch for 14.2

04/09/2015    10:33:27 AM    from Tim to Everyone:

Are there any presentations or other high level documentation available for CA Agile?  All I have been able to find is the admin guide and would like to be able to share something at a higher level preferrably with screenshots.

04/09/2015    10:34:41 AM    from Nadine Taillefer to Everyone:

is there a video available to show all the v 14.2 new features?

04/09/2015    10:35:15 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

@Lowell : This is a big discussion for this forum.  If you are asking how to pass an internal record ID to a portlet ; it can be done using a CONSTRUCT for receiving the ID value.  Look for existing NSQL queries that might use this type of construct for examples.

04/09/2015    10:35:29 AM    from Esteban Sanchez to Everyone:

@kate - means that we must wait for the patch?

04/09/2015    10:35:43 AM    from Damon (ca) to Everyone:

      @Kathryn/Lowell - does this help? project ID = @WHERE:PARAM:USER_DEF:INTEGER:SP_PROJECT_ID@

04/09/2015    10:36:22 AM    from John W. George (CA Technologies) to Everyone:

@Tim - here is a link to the most current CA Clarity Agile documentation: https://wiki.ca.com/display/CCA133/CA+Clarity+Agile

04/09/2015    10:36:37 AM    from Venita to Everyone:

Is 14.2 going to be available in your Sandlot environment?  If so, when?

04/09/2015    10:36:57 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:

      @Nadine - Upcoming webcast - Live Webcast: What’s New In CA PPM 14.2 - https://communities.ca.com/events/1909

04/09/2015    10:37:05 AM    from Nika Hadzhikidi (CA) to Everyone:

@Esteban : there is possibly a way to modify the start conditions, depneding on the process you have. To help you best, it would be good to open a Support case.

04/09/2015    10:37:21 AM    from Kate Holland (CA) to Everyone:

@Esteban - yes that is what that means

04/09/2015    10:37:38 AM    from Lowell Wetzel to Everyone:

@Damon - how do you determine the ID before the @ symbol?

04/09/2015    10:38:22 AM    from Tim to Everyone:

      @John thank you

04/09/2015    10:39:10 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

For definitions of functions within NSQL, what is the syntax?

04/09/2015    10:42:22 AM    from Kate Holland (CA) to Everyone:

@Esteban the patch is targeted for the 3rd week in May

04/09/2015    10:42:23 AM    from Lowell Wetzel to Everyone:

For example, when you create a function in Oracle, you can reference it in any query in the system.  What is the syntax for defining a function within each NSQL?

04/09/2015    10:43:50 AM    from Kathryn Ellis (CA) to Everyone:

@Lowell: I am using the new DocOps (wiki.ca.com) for finding the answer!  Look at this link ----   https://wiki.ca.com/display/CCPPMOP142/CA+Clarity+PPM+Studio+NSQL+Queries

04/09/2015    10:45:17 AM    from Nika Hadzhikidi (CA) to Everyone:

@Lowell : If you would like to create an Oracle function with NSQL, this is not possible. If you would like to use an existing function within your NSQL, then just reference it as normal in a query.

04/09/2015    10:45:24 AM    from Chris Hackett (CA) to Everyone:
