Person is assigned 2 tasks & then selecting Auto Schedule - Clarity is under assigning the person

I have 1 person assigned 82.5% availability on a project.  They have 2 distinct tasks. The tasks are linked so 1 follows the other.  I then autoscheduled the tasks.  When I look at the Investment Allocations and Assignments report it shows me the person has 145.2 hours of allocation for June 2015, and is assigned 137.09 hours with 8.11 hours Varianace.  Why is there a Variance?  Why didn't auto schedule use the persons entire allocation?
