  • 1.  AE - Max Run Alarm on Jobs

    Posted Jul 29, 2015 12:21 PM

Just wondering if anyone has advice around the use of max run alarms.

Would it make sense as a best practice to use this by default on all jobs or is there some performance penelty for doing so?

Any other reason why we shouldn't be using this feature for most jobs?

it sends out an alert and SNMP trap. This should be used only for important processes.

Default is a bad idea. IMHO.

    Good Luck

Sory about that.  This is my first response to a community thread.  I replied out of my mail clinet and apparently it didnt' work the way I hadhoped.

What I had intended to say was that we use these types of alerts when job owners need to know that thier jobs have been running too long. This allows them to take action if they need to.  We also use this on jobs that are at critical points in a job stream where predecessors have important time dependencies.

I hope that after all that this contribution was helpful!

If you need to differentiate the alerts between critical (Max alarm you already have) and non-critical, there’s also the MUST_COMPLETE_ALARM which can be used to alert users that a job has not completed by the time (relative or absolute) specified in JIL attribute “must_complete_times:”. However, setting them up on all jobs might be a little too much.
