I have installed a fresh SDM 14.1 in solaris machine and i have restored 12.5 database in it,, when i ran pdm_configure, am getting " cannot connect to database " error,

Unfortunately the way that this was done is not supported and will not work. The reason is two-fold. First, the mdb would need to be upgraded which is done upon installing 14.1 on top of 12.5 - this will trigger the 14.1 install to do the upgrade on the mdb. The MDB upgrade will put the tables/columns in place (along with other schema changes) that are required for 14.1. Second, the mdb database did not go through the migration process. The migration process occurs after the application upgrade completes. This is the process that actually takes your 12.5 data, lays it out into xml files and then loads it back into the updated schema where needed for 14.1. So in this case, what I would recommend you do at this point would be to uninstall 14.1, and first replicate your prod 12.5 system into this new solaris environment, including the patch level etc. Once you have a running replica of your prod environment all configured and working, then go ahead and do the upgrade to 14.1 which will upgrade the application, the mdb, and will then kick off the migration wizard.
