Modify grouping attribute for existing cost plan

We have Transaction Class and Charge code as grouping attributes so far. We are now going to add input type code to the default grouping attributes.

For our upcoming implementation Input type code is mandatory grouping attribute.

Users tend to use "copy cost plan" to create new cost plan. The newly configured attributes dont get created in this case.

Is there a way to get this new grouping attribute added to such cost plans that are created using "Copy cost plan:" action?

If thats not possible the other option is to add grouping attribute to current Plan of records(or copied cost plan "On create"). What is the best way to do this? note: this is on premise so I can update fin_plans and details tables or ppa_wip records with new input type code values. I want to avoid this DB update option for obvious reasons unless people say that is the only alternative.
