Hi David,
1. What does this command do and what impact does it have on the Spectrum App & DB?
We can attempt to repair the existing database file using the ArchMgr -repair command.
Usually the Archive Manager is down when the ArchMgr -repair command is run. If Archive Manager is running, you would need to stop it, easiest way is from Spectrum Control Panel -> Control -> Stop Archive Manager
You should see the below outputs on the Command Prompt:
1. ArchMgr started as user 'username'
2. ArchMgr attempting to repair corrupt database
3. Finally, if all goes well, ArchMgr successfully repaired database
Once, this completes, you should start Archive Manager, again the easiest way is from Spectrum Control Panel -> Control -> Start Archive Manager
2. What do you mean by "Also please make sure there are no erroneous/duplicate entries in the hosts file"? and 3. Should we make sure that those erroneous/duplicate entries in the hosts file do not exist before running the command?
I do not recollect perhaps I was referring to the /etc/hosts file for erroneous/duplicate entries
I would suggest you to refer the below link which discusses similar issue:
