  • 1.  ENC - what kind of ping is it from client to ENC router ?

The ENC green book describes the steps to initiate an ENC connection on page 11:

"... both clients ping the ENC Routers using direct TCP/IP connections and return the result to the Gateway Manager. ..."

How is this ping being done and can it be configured (Ports, ...) ?

    Regards

    Hi Claus,

The ENC Client opens a TCP socket to each router and exchanges some dummy data in order to get the response time. The connection is made over the ENC protocol using by default 443 and/or port 80. This ENC ports can be changed but I would not recommend it as it makes managing your firewall and proxy a lot more difficult.

    Rgds,

    Steve.

    Hi Steve and Joe,

the answer was exact what I needed. Thew word "ping" in the documentation was a bit missleading ..

    Thanks
