Has any Clarity site had any success displaying data from a non-NIKU data base in a Clarity HTML portlet?
That's the route we initially tried to take, but the other system was hesitant about that approach. Since time was a factor, we didn't want to use cycles explaining to them that they could still control what we could access. A DBlink with a single view let them feel warm and fuzzy about their data security so we went with that. It did make the portlet development a piece of cake though.
We were able to accomplish this by using a read-only DB link with the other system's database. I know it's probably not exactly what you're looking for, but we were able to accomplish our goals fairly quickly with that.
Have you encountered SQL issues with DBlink?
We didn't. We knew of the possibility of issues if we tried to pull from numerous tables/DB Links, so we worked with the other system to build out a single materialized view and we pulled directly from the view. That allowed us to minimize the strain on our system, simplified our SQL, and it helped reassure the other group that they controlled their data.
With the DB link, the portlet/query doesn't even realize it's pulling data from another database. It works the same as if it were a native table.
This all comes with the disclaimer that the two systems are on similar technology and I'm sure the complexity of the portlet may complicate using DB Links as a solution, but it's worked out pretty well for us in a couple of situations.
How about using an external connection in CSA?
