PPM 14.3 New Install - servicensa files not installed in clarity/bin

  • 1.  PPM 14.3 New Install - servicensa files not installed in clarity/bin

    Posted Feb 07, 2016 12:25 AM

Just finished running the PPM 14.3 install on SuSE Linux 11.2.

Pre-install and Install checked out fine. No error messages, only a warning about the Data Warehouse not being configured yet. Not a problem, since the Admin and Application modules can run without it.

For some reason, all the servicensa files are not in the clarity/bin directory. All of the beacon files are there and the Beacon Service can be started and stopped normally.

Have completely wiped the clarity home directory and install directory and re-installed several times just to be sure I did not miss anything.

    Still the same result.

This install is being done on a system that was a 13.2 install, but the old files have been moved and the JAVA_HOME, tomcat directory and NIKU_HOME files are all correct for the 14.3 version.

Also, the install is not being done as root, but as a user that can run all files in the clarity folder.

As per the instructions on page 460 of the install guide: set the following options:

Use command prefix such as sudo for superuser tasks? [no] : no

User name for superuser tasks [root] : clarity

Am attaching the checkinstall-results zip file and the log of the Install.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hi Tenden,

I looked at the install log and it seems it was not upgraded rather just csa was installed and it completed. To upgrade a system you need to start the upgrade pointing existing CA PPM directory.

    Done.

    execute: remote = false

    execute: hosts.xml out of date

    execute: Config Mgr setup

    execute: read hosts.xml

    Deploying service(s)...

    Initialized...

    Executing ant script

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Installing Beacon:

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Creating launch configuration: servicebeaconcmd-debug

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Creating launch configuration: servicebeaconcmd-diag

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Copying 1 file to /clarity/bin

    Executed ant script

    Updating service: beacon

    Done.

    ---------------------------------------------------

    CSA Installation complete.

To continue, point your web browser to:

    http://localhost:8090/niku/app.

    ---------------------------------------------------

    Installation Successful - 06-February-2016 23:03:59

    BUILD SUCCESSFUL

So when you upgrade it will ask you if you want to use the exsiting CA PPM folder or new which I don't see in the install log. The next step should be

    1. Ensure existing CA PPM is up and running

    2. Stop all services expect CSA & Beacon

    3. Upgrade the 3rd party software like tomcat and Java

    4. Start the upgrade.

Hope this helps and let me know if you need any help.

    Regards

    Hello Suman,

This was a completely new install of CA PPM 14.3. The only thing that remained the same was the Linux OS. Java and Tomcat were upgraded first and then the CA PPM 14.3 install was run. Also, all parameters in the user's .profile were also changed to reflect the latest JAVA_HOME, etc.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

If this was the new install then login to the CSA and point to the 14.3 database and then add, deploy and start the services

    Hi Paul,

I checked your install.log and it looks to be installing the application with no issue.

Is your clarity user owner of the new /clarity folder? If not, please make him owner and grant him full permissions over /clarity, java and tomcat folders..

Which servicensa files do you not see, all of them? Here is a screenshot from my 14.3 system, with the servicensa files it contains.

What about the serviceapp and servicebg files, are they available?

If the permission fix does not help, can you check for any antivirus on your system that would stop the executables from deploying? We've had issues with this before, the antivirus would remove the files upon installing as it was detecting them as potentially harmful.

    Kind Regards

    Hello Nika,

Clarity is the owner of the /clarity, /tomcat and /java folders.

The only groups of service files are serviceant and servicebeacon. Serviceapp and servicebg are not there.

Currently using SuSE Enterprise v11.2 and there does not appear to be any Antivirus software running.

Will attach the list of the files in the Clarity directory as well as the current process list.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

It is expected as you just installed the CSA, you need to point to the database and then you need to add and deploy app and bg service in order to get the same.

    Hello Suman,

Yes, that makes sense for the serviceapp and servicebg. However, why is the servicensa missing. Can I manually run another script to install it?

    Regards,

    Paul

NSA has been renamed to CSA for new releases, so you dont need any longer.

    Hello Suman,

Based on the clarity/bin directory listing, what service needs to be started to get the Admin console running? I.E. what has replaced servicensa?

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

To get the csa running you need to execute service start nsa and service start beacon and then you can configure the database once CSA is up and running.

    To clarify further.

Nothing will have replaced servicensa* files, they are still the ones used.  The change from NSA to CSA has only really been applied to the outward-facing branding at this time and the commands still reference 'nsa' instead.

For some reason it seems your installation did not add/deploy the NSA/CSA service, even though the options were set for it to do so.

Verify the services you do have present with: service status all

And if the NSA/CSA service is missing, try to add it with (this action will populate the /bin folder with those files if necessary): service add deploy nsa

Then finally (if it adds it without further error or incident) you can use: service start nsa

    Hello Nick,

"service status all" only reports back the CA PPM Beacon.

Just ran "service add deploy nsa" and the servicensa files are now there.

Just ran "service start nsa", the nsa process started and now am able to use the Admin Console.

    Thank you Nick.

    Regards,

    Paul

P.S. Thank you also that Suman and Nika for getting the direction started.

    Hello Suman,

The command "service start nsa" actually calls the "servicensa" script file, but all "servicensa" files do not exist in my clarity/bin directory.

When trying "service start nsa" it produces the error message "No registered service(s) found." which makes sense since it cannot find the "servicensa" files.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

As Nick said earlier it could be a reason that it did not get deploy so try the below steps

    1. Service add deploy nsa beacon - To deploy the services

    2. Service start nsa beacon - To start the services

Let us know how it goes.
