Hi All, I am working with ca ITPAM from couple of weeks. can some one tell me .. is their any way to send a sms(please confirm whether IP PAM will support sms option ot not) like as send email operator. Thanks in advance !! -Harish
Process Automation does not provide an facility to send SMS out of the box. Sending SMS messages requires integration with a SMS service or using a Cellular Modem. Depending on the SMS services you want to use or modem you integrate with you should be able to have PAM call an API to send the SMS message.
The send email operator is based on an industry standard API (SMTP) for sending emails from an internet attached computer. SMS does not have the same standard API and delivery system, until you get to your computer connected to the Cellular Networks. The SMS Service or Cellular Modem provides this integration.

I'm not aware of an operator to send SMS with pam, and i'm not sure you need one. Sending SMS is done via Email, via WebService or with a custom protocol provided by the Carrier, and PAM was designed exactly to do this I've never done it with PAM, but i did with the email method within a .net app. I did a quick search and it looks pretty easy to go with the WebService or custom protocol. Let's go :
Here's a couple of way :
First one is suitable if you know to wich carrier the cellphone number is associated. They almost all support sms via Email : firstname.lastname@example.org. Personnaly, here, every business cellphone is in my CMDB with the associated number, all with the same carrier, very easy.
Here's a short list of the major one in the USA :
Virgin Mobile: email@example.com
Second options, a lot more work, but you do not need to know the carrier. You can send them using a webService. There's a lot available online, for free or a subscription based on how many sms you want to send by month. This solution is better suited if you do not send more thant 60-80 sms per minute.
Third option : Endpoint provided by carrier. It differs for every carrier. You will have to check with them. For what i've read, they usually ask for a commitment of 100,000+ sms per month.
