  • 1.  The Project Start data does not move when ahead of the task start date

    Posted Apr 28, 2016 07:59 AM

When a project is created and Start Date and Finish Date is set and task start and finish date was set to some future date

So when we try to move the Project Start Date beyond the Task Start Date, it does not set to the new date but rather the same date.

Could you please let me know the reason behind it?

Obviously a project can not start after a task in the project has started, so the application is just preventing that (the application doesn't know that you probably also want to move the task dates).

So if you moved the task dates first then you should then be able to move the project dates.

This is fundamental of PMO, you cannot have the Task date earlier than Project Date.

    thanks for the information..

The point I wanted to make is when we move the project start date ahead of the task start date, the task should also move according to the start of the project as far as there is not actuals written on that dates.

I understand that application does not know the that the intention is to move the task date ahead with the Project Start Date.

But this situations arises where in there are already many tasks created with the start Start Date of the project. So it would be difficult to move all the task start dates ahead and then move the Project Start Date.

That is the way it works in CA PPM: project level information rolls up from the bottom up, it is not top down.

Change the start date of your first task to the new start date of your project. rescheudle, then change the start date of the project.

The above was assuming all the subsequent tasks are down stream from the first task.
