  • 1.  Virtualization of Policy servers

we are on  a project to virtualize our policy server from our physical server setup.

Are there any CA recommended Specifications to baseline for virtualizing the policy servers?

(we do have all the data stores on physical server setup.)

Any recommendations/concerns on how much we need to request- is this the same as the requirements physical setup.?

    CPU

    Memory

    RAM

    etc?

All i find is the one below,  but no mention of Virtual space

does CA has any test data on the performance when the policy servers are moved to virtual space.?

    Hi Sandeep,

The link you provided are minimum system requirements. In real production, I imagine you would want something more advanced and powerful.

There are so many 3rd party vendors to choose from in terms of virtualization choices, some even claim they are better than hardware performance.

CA does not have recommendation list or published system specifications I know of at this point.

However as long as the particular virtualization supports the correct operating system per SSO support matrix, then generally they are supported.

SiteMinder follows the general CA Policy for Virtualization noted below, which web link is documented in SSO support matrix:

    https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/phpsupcontent?techDocAccess=N&contentID=189545

    "

In general, CA products run in virtual environments without incident. CA notes any specific issues it detects in the respective product documentation. However, it is important to note that CA does not attempt to run quality assurance tests for every possible setup of its products with each and every virtual platform and cannot certify specific client configurations.

This statement applies to, but is not limited to, the following Enterprise-class virtual platforms and their associated Databases:

    • HP HP-UX VPARs
    • IBM AIX LPARs
    • Microsoft Windows Virtual Server
    • Microsoft HYPER-V
    • Sun Microsystems LDOMs
    • VMware ESX
    • Citrix XenServer

    "

The rest is really about system tuning and bench testing, which you could seek CA service’s help if needed.

We have seen customers successfully use virtualization environment today in production.

    Hope this helps.

System requirements such as Processor and Memory would be the same regardless of whether the Policy Server is physical or virtual.
