What is the right way to transfer XML-data (stored in a dataset) created on Z/OS to a Windows platform? Do the file attributes of the dataset meet special properties?

I suppose it all depends! On a great many things! For example:

    • Who is the intended user? What accesses do they have?
    • Do they have mainframe access?
    • Do they know where to look for the file - if so the can use one of the many PC to mainframe upload/download tools?
    • Do they have LAN access?
    • You could set up an FTP job on the mainframe that runs after the XML file is created - then put the file in a known location on a LAN!
    • Along the same lines - you could email the XML as an attachment - then there is no requirement for the user to have access to the LAN - which can be a bonus if the user does not have access to the LAN!

If you need to know how to e-mail from the mainframe - that is a different question - but you will need to ask that as part of this discussion or as a new question!

Just a few thoughts - hope this helps - take care - cheers - GaryC
