Install fresh r12.52 Policy Server and joining to a r12.0 existing environment

Hi, we are assisting one of our customer that due to EOS of the Ca Siteminder release r12.0 deployed on their environment is planning a revamp of the servers involved. Due to time and budget constraints, in the first phase they planned to install just new r12.52 Policy Servers on new servers with OS Windows2012R2 standard edition.

The main concern is about installing fresh Policy Server r12.52 on new server and connecting them to the existing r12.0 policy store.

Based on product documentation (wiki.ca.com) seems this is possible (in case of migration), even if  until policy store is not extended the new r12.52 features are not available. The documentation mentions a mixed mode support that is activated in case of migration of the existing policy server (When you upgrade a Policy Server, the Policy Server installer detects that policy store version.

If the policy store is operating at a previous version, the installer upgrades the Policy Server and enables mixed, compatibility, mode. You cannot disable mixed–mode support)

Does this works also in case of fresh install of the policy servers on new box?

    Hi,

Policy server has backward compatibility to older policy store. In your case, fresh install of R12.52 policy server should be able to communicate with R12 policy store.

Having said that, new features introduced in R12.52 might not available due to schema, data definition not update.

You can try the approach in lower environment to verify.
