Is py a valid option to add to the valid shell option in agentparm.txt file?
I think you need to specify the path to the interpreter.
Use the which command to find the location on your system:
This is an excerpt from the agentparm.txt file
Another alternative would be to set checkvalidshell to false.
This is what they are coding
Does /usr/bin/python have to be added to the oscomponent.validshell= parm and is this a valid option?

If that is what they are coding then I would expect it to be valid.
If you have access to the system do a list command to verify (listed below is what I get).
ls -l /usr/bin/python
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 7 Mar 7 2013 /usr/bin/python -> python2
You will need to update agentparm.txt (make a backup) and stop/start the agent.
After you start the agent confirm the setting by viewing agent_properties.log in log directory.
Seems to me that you would do something like this:
UNIX_JOB <job name>
AGENT <agent name>
In *nix. The header should say what shell it is running or where the code is.
NOT the agentparm. This is autosys.
What if directories change etc.
It is easier to change the code thane the agent machine.. especially when you don’t have accerss
