  • 1.  CA Unified Infrastructure manager- Alerts are getting generated during Maintenance Mode, Due to IP discrimination and wrong IP in DNS server, Can somebody provide the resolution to avoid this.

    Hi All,

We are getting alerts even if the servers are under maintenance mode, There are multiple IPs exist of the server due to wrong entry in DNS server, But this can be done later in Our project.

Can somebody provide the solution so that even if the server is put under maintenance by its name only, we dont get alerts.

We are running on the version 8.3 and latest version of maintenance probe as well.

    Regards

    Rohit

Maintenance mode will stop all alerts with a severity level > 1.

Are the alerts that get tickets created perhaps all generated with level=1 ?

No, all the alerts have the severity>1, we found out that some of the other servers which were not in maintenance has the same MAC address as of the servers which threw alarms.

    We are investigating further.

    Hi Rohit

Is it likely you have duplicated servers in USM? It use to happen in UIM 8.31 and earlier when both, discovery wizard and vmware, are used to discover the devices. If you enter the IP of the server (in maintenance mode) in the search box in USM do you see two entries appear? This is normally resolved by upgrading the discovery_server and discovery_agent to v8.32.

Also, are the alarms generated by probes installed on the very robot set on maintenance?

Another thing you could check is the clocks on the following servers are synchronized:

    - UIM Server system (the primary hub, where the maintenance_mode probe is deployed)

    - Database server

    - all NAS servers

    - all UMP servers

To ensure that maintenance schedules start and stop at the intended times, these system clocks must be in sync.

If things get complicated do not hesitate to open a support ticket and we can investigate further:

    Hi Iulian,

    Answer to your questions is

    1. If you enter the IP of the server (in maintenance mode) in the search box in USM do you see two entries appear? True

    2. Also, are the alarms generated by probes installed on the very robot set on maintenance? True

I can only see discovery agent probe version 8.41 in the archive and discovery server probe is on version 8.31 and i cannot see any further versions for the same.

Please let us know if ugrading to discovery agent probe version 8.41 will fix the issue?

Where do we get discovery server version 8.32?

    Regards

    Rohit Sharma

    Hi Rohit

First of all, both discovery probes should be on the same version. So, upgrading discovery_server to 8.41 should be the first thing you should do.

Then, stop the Nimbus robot watcher service, delete the content of the niscache folder from the primary hub server (\nimsoft\niscache), restart the service and do a discovery reset as explained in the following article:

    http://www.ca.com/us/support/ca-support-online/product-content/knowledgebase-articles/tec000004861.aspx

This should help you resolve the duplicated devices.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Regards.
