  • 1.  PDM extract to update ca_contact

    Posted Aug 22, 2016 07:45 AM

    Hi Team,

We are using Service Catalog 12.7 and we are planning to upgrade the same to 14.1.

Initially, the plan is to upgrade Service Desk 12.7 to 14.1 and Database from SQL 2008 to 2014.

Service Catalog will be upgraded few days later.

Meanwhile, for the changes happening in ca_contact table through Service Desk front end to reflect in Service Catalog, we want to know the pdm extract script.

Request you to share the pdm extract/load/refresh scripts to update the changes(user creation/modification/deletion) happening through Service Desk 14.1 front end to reflect in Service Catalog 12.7.

    Thanks,

    Hemalatha S.

    Hi Hemalatha S.

The login to CA Service Catalog(SC) is based on EEM and ca_contact table indeed.

When you upgrade SDM to R14.1 first, then the login to SC will continue.

As far as I know, there are no known or recognized changes in the ca_contact table, that could cause an issue while you login to the SC-UI.

Do you have 'other' information than I have related to this?

Or do you have specifics on certain changes on the ca_contact table to share with me?

Please advise. Thanks in advance and kind regards, Louis van Amelsfort.

    Good Afternoon Hemalatha S.

Please let me know whether the information I provided earlier did help you further on this?

    Thanks and kind regards, Louis.

    Hi Louis,

    Thanks for the response.

Actually, SQL Database will be upgraded from 2008 to 2014 along with Service Desk.

But since, Service Catalog 12.7 doesn't support SQL 2014, Service Catalog will continue to use SQL 2008 till upgrade whereas Service Desk will use SQL 2014.

And hence, if the user were created/modified through Service Desk, we need a separate pdm scripts to get it reflected in Service Catalog.

Please let me know for any clarifications.

    Thanks,

    Hemalatha S

    Hi Hemalatha S.

So, for a 'short period of time' you'll then have 2 mdb databases running?

And then I understand your question about 'synchronizing' ca_contact data.

When you have SDM and SC (and PAM) integrated, then it will  not work, having two separate mdb databases.

Not even for a 'small' period.

As far as I can see, the approach then would be:

    1. Use the current integrated mssql/mdb database environment

    2. Upgrade SDM

    3. Upgrade SC

    4. Upgrade the mssql environment

Please advise. Thanks and kind regards, Louis.

    Hi Louis,

Sql 2008 Database will be running on one server and Sql 2014 will be running on another new server.

Please let me know if in that case, it would be possible or not.

    Thanks,

    Hemalatha S

    Hi Hemalatha S.

In a fully integrated environment, that would not be possible.

You can have only one mdb database that is being used by all integrating products.

    Kind regards, Louis.

    Hi Louis,

We do have separate servers for Service Desk 14.1, Service catalog 12.7, SQL DB 2008 and SQL DB 2014.

Can't we have Service Desk 14.1 and SQL DB 2014 integrated separately and

Service Catalog 12.7 and SQL DB 2008 to be integrated separately.

If the pdm script is not possible, can you suggest us an alternate way to reflect the changes made in Service Desk to reflect in Service Catalog.

    Thanks,

    Hemalatha S

    Hi Hemalatha S.

With my apology upfront, I can only repeat what I mentioned earlier:

In a fully integrated environment, that would not be possible.

You can have only one mdb database that is being used by all integrating products.

As this is about SDM integrated with SC and the other way around, SC >> SDM.

Changes made in 'all of SDM' need to be reflected in the mdb database.

And also 'all of SC' need to be reflected in that SAME mdb database.

You can not have separate mdb installations for an integrated environment.

    Kind regards, Louis.
