  • 1.  Oracle Version for CA BSI 8.3.5

    Posted Sep 15, 2016 03:20 AM

    Hi Team,

I have installed Oracle 11g (version: 11.2.0.1.0) on windows server 2008 R2. Is it supported for CA BSI 8.3.5?

Apart from this, I am planning to install BSI on the same server as database. Do I need to install Oracle 32-bit client on database server?

    Kindly suggest.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Balram.Deswal

Supported database server software for BSI 8.3.5 is

    11.2.0.4 or 11.2.0.3

You do not need to install the ora client on oracle database server.

Note: BSI works on 32-bit mode. Remember that on 64-bit systems, Oracle database must be installed in 32-bit mode. It is also Imported to install Oracle OLEDB driver and ODAC 11.2 Release x 32 bit.

(CA Business Service Insight supports Oracle DB 11.2.0.3 only if the Oracle client is version 11.2.0.4.)

    Hi Besim,

Thanks for your response. As per the supportability matrix, it is suggesting the following oracle database version (for windows server 2008 R2):

Also the database that is available for download on Oracle is 11g R2 (11.2.0.1.0). From where we can get these supported oracle versions?

    Regards,

    Balram

    Hi Balram,

That full list of versions is only if you're installing in a multi-tier environment. Oracle can't have a different client version installed to the server on the same machine, if you're installing both Oracle and BSI 8.3.5 on the same machine, you'll need to stick to the 11.2.0.4 32-bit database server. For that reason as well as performance, I'd strongly recommend separate servers.

Besim, you were correct until recently about needing either 11.2.0.3 or 11.2.0.4 on the server side; we recently did some testing with other releases, as part of the testing we did for using 12.1.0.1 in multi-tier. For more general Oracle support reasons, I'd recommend going with one of those three if possible.

    thanks

    Hi Iain,

    Thanks for your response.

Can I use 12.1.0.2.0 enterprise version also? It's enterprise verson is available for downloading from Oracle Database Software Downloads | Oracle Technology Network | Oracle

    Kindly suggest.

    Hi Balram,

According to that page we've not tested 12.1.0.2, so I can't say either way, sorry. I wouldn't recommend it, as it's not certified.
