    Hi

The customer has a number of devices representing ADSL sites.

We want to do ping test from an external source to see if the site is up.

When configuring a test and set the destination host name (DNS name) it resolves it to the IP address.

So the next time the ADSL router reboots it gets a different IP address and the SPM test fails due the old IP address configuration.

Is there a way to hard code the DNS names in the SPM test?

    Regards

    Klaus

Spectrum doesn't handle this as far as I understand. Spectrum can discover things via DNS, but the moment it resolves the first time it uses the IP to populate the Network_Address attribute. I don't know how you will get over this problem unless you run a discover but that will just keep adding new IP's and won't get rid of the old ones (unless you script these to be removed). Using DHCP for anything you want to monitor in Spectrum is typically not something it handles well because Spectrum relies on referencing an IP address (and not a name!).

The only way I've seen this done is via Scripts and that's not a pretty sight!!!
