Hostname not showing up in CAUIM generated alerts

  • 1.  Hostname not showing up in CAUIM generated alerts

    Hi,

    In CA UIM monitoring tool, for some alerts the hostname is not showing up.
    So the CI is not getting populated in the ticketing tool.

     

    Please let us know what can be the solution .

    We would need a lot more details to help you with this issue.

    What probe is the alarm coming from?

    Is the robot and or probe setup to send the short name, ZQDN or robot name?

    What is the alarm coming in as? may want to post a screen shot.

    what is the ticketing system?

    How are you getting alarms to it?

     

    This may be very complicated and you may be better served opening a support request.

    The probe is CDM probe.

    No nothing as such is setup.
    the alarm is coming in as :-

    IP address-
    QoS CPU usage on XYZ has crossed critical threshold of 90%.

    The ticketing system is Service Now.

    For some instances we are getting the ip address ..for rest we are getting the hostname.

    ayushs Do you mean to say that you are receiving the IP address of the robot instead of the hostname because of which the Hostname mapping is not working with SNOW?

     

    Would it be possible for you to post the screen shot of the alarm from the alarm console after expanding the details ?

     

    imrankhcl Can you also post a similar screen shot if you have the same issue?

    Hi Phani,

     

    The issue i am facing is that SOI is not able to pick the correct name of CI from the Nimsoft DB and therefore the CI name is showing unknown.

     

    For ip address instead of hostname, in my case it is showing the ip address assigned to cluster and not showing the ip address assigned to node where the agent is deployed. The alert is generated however from cdm probe. I am trying to find the root cause but no guess as of now.

    Hi Imran,

    From your explanation I understand that your servers in a cluster are being monitored using the CDM and Cluster probe and when the cdm alert is being generated it is being generated against the the cluster IP and not the node IP

     

    If you open the Probe Configuration and click on Setup Tab , you should find the cluster tab as the fourth tab under it. Cluster tab is displayed only when the cdm probe is hosted in clustered environment and it is configured as a part of a cluster

     

    If you look at the settings under the cluster tab you will find the available options for alarm source and QoS source and this setting might be the one causing it to generate the alert against the cluster IP 

     

    The available options for alarm source and QoS source are:

    • <cluster ip>
    • <cluster name>
    • <cluster name>.<group name>

    Yes , for some robots I am facing the issue, where the hostname is not getting displayed in alert.
    for rest of the inventory its working fine.

     

    I will try putting up the screen shot, but can you help me and let me know what can be the issue.
    I have configured the cdm probe via Admin console with the same process for all servers.

    For some only the hostname is not getting populated.

    ayushs It will be difficult to understand the issue and suggest something unless you post some screen shots please 

     

    Also what version of cdm are you using ?
