MFX101S: Legacy is Not a Dirty Word

In this session, we will explore the "legacy" decision and technology choices. We will explore options and the pros and cons of several ways to move forward. For this discussion, we will define a hypothetical company that has made major investments in IDMS but has an urgent need to "modernize." While we cannot draw conclusions in a hypothetical situation, we can and will explore a rational process that can be followed in pursuit of a plan of action. That plan of action will begin with two understandings: first, the definition of where our company is today, and second, where we want it to be - not only from a technology platform perspective, but also from the perspective of achieving the company's tactical and strategic business plans. It is important to note that this discussion is not entirely hypothetical. It is composed with real world observations made by the speaker at many companies over many years. Some organizations are able to move forward very successfully, yet many struggle. This session presents an opportunity to explore their differences.

MFT149T: Tech Talk: "12 Monkeys” and the Mainframe

In the SyFy adventure "12 Monkeys", the Monkeys are time travelers, bent on destroying the universe by creating paradoxes at 12 points in time. One character sees the coming disruption and sounds the following warning: "Everything's changing. Green to red. Everything's changing.” It’s obvious that "green to red" is not good. Attend this Tech Talk and learn, while not quite as dire, the speaker is also sounding a warning: cloud computing is happening. It’s a disruptive technology and we don’t have a time machine we can use to fight it. What does this mean for the mainframe? Is this disruptive change from “green to red” or from “red to green”? The outcome will depend on what you do. We are going to explore 12 things that cloud computing is changing and how they might affect your future.

    Posted Oct 20, 2016 03:58 PM

Has CA made a permanent decision to return IDMS content to CA-WORLD?? In 2013 or 14 there was virtually NO IDMS content which led to the creation of the (high;y successful and enjoyable) mini-conferences in framingham

I would have considered CA-WORLD – but I had no idea that idms was back on the table,

Is ca-world including user presentations? Or only vendor-based presentations?

If CA-WORLD is including both, does this spell the end of the mini-camps?

    Thanks,

    Chris hoel;scher

    Chris,

Yes, we have brought back technical content to CA World 2016 based on customer feedback.

CA IDMS and CA Datacom will feature four full days of education and sessions discussing new capabilities and plans for these products.

From the mini-camp perspective, our plan is to discuss what makes sense with the User Group committees, after CA World.

We recognize the value that customers receive from ongoing collaboration and training and are committed to jointly find the best approach to technical education.

    Best Regards,
